Honeymoon over as Clement makes his transfer demands

Philippe Clement is apparently looking to sign a striker and a left-back during the January transfer window.

With no Sporting Director, not even Graeme Souness and a £13m deficit from 1 July thanks to Micky Beale the former Belgian boss could have a long wait to get his targets.

Signing strikers was the target for Clement’s predecessor with £14m spent on Danilo, Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers despite already having Kemar Roofe draining the wage bill.

Unless some club comes in to sign up some of Beale’s duds Clement will be looking for his directors to fund his January war-chest.

The ever speculative Football Insider claims:

Speaking to the press in recent days, Clement revealed he is unhappy with the “balance” of his Rangers squad – feeling he has too many players in some positions and not enough in other areas.

He confirmed work is underway on recruitment for the January window – as well as for the 2024-25 campaign.

It is believed left-back is one of the areas the new Gers boss will address in the new year.

Borna Barisic and Ridvan Yilmaz have shared the responsibilities on the left side of Clement’s defence and it is clear that the manager is yet to decide who his preferred option is.

Barisic, 31, is out of contract at the end of the season after joining the club from Croatian outfit NK Osijek back in 2018.

A well-placed source has also told Football Insider that Clement is keen to bring another goalscorer to Ibrox in the January window.

That is despite Michael Beale bringing forward trio Danilo, Sam Lammers and Cyril Dessers to the club in the summer window.

Those three have struggled for form, scoring just 13 combined goals – with right-back James Tavernier leading the scoring charts at Ibrox with nine goals across all competitions.

Football Insider has well placed sources and recruitment experts inside every club in the EPL and Championship revealing every transfer detail as well as experts inside the leading clubs in Scotland.

Barisic, John Lundstram, Roofe, Ryan Jack, Leon Balogun and Jon McLaughlin are out of contract at the end of the season.

Can someone explain the reason why for us playing St Johnstone away on Sunday at lunchtime and not Saturday.
I posted earlier in the season that our games woukd get moved to a Sunday should sevco end up in the Europa league and there we have it,the SFA and SPFL digging sevco out a hole again so Celtic don’t get the advantage.
I’m quite surprised they haven’t told our club to play their games on Thursday the same as sevco.
