Every single VAR decision in Celtic’s domestic matches this season have been rubber stamped as correct by an independent Review Panel set up by the SFA.

There has been plenty of contentious decisions in the season so far, in the last match against Aberdeen Slobodan Rubezic  was only booked for a dangerous attack on Kyogo Furuhashi, in the previous match away to Ross County it appeared that the still image to justify an offside decision against Daizen Maeda was taken after Paulo Bernardo had kicked the ball.

Premiership clubs met with the SFA yesterday to review 407 VAR checks and discovered that only three mistakes have been made, much less than 1%.

Strangely one of the mistakes was a double kick on a stoppage time penalty scored by Aberdeen which denied St Mirren two points. John Beaton failed to spot the double touch with Euan Anderson on VAR also failing to notice the infringement.

The two other mistakes were made in Dundee matches as The Scotsman reported:

There have been 407 VAR checks since the start of the season, 24 of which led to on-field reviews. The IRP was set up by the governing body ahead of the start of the season, the first full campaign with the video technology in place. The panel of former players, managers and coaches is guided by experts on the Laws of the Game and gives an analysis of interventions and non-interventions from VAR.

The 12 Premiership clubs held a meeting with the Scottish FA’s referees department on Thursday to review the performance of VAR during the opening round of fixtures. Audio of conversations between match officials and the VAR control room was relayed to the club representatives and explanations were given over how some key match incidents were dealt with.

Miovski’s spot-kick equaliser in the tenth minute of stoppage time in Paisley on August 27 prevented St Mirren from going top of the league. There was a VAR check after Miovski dispatched the penalty as Saints goalkeeper Zach Hemming claimed the North Macedonia striker had touched the ball twice after slipping while taking the spot-kick, but the goal was given.

Steven McLean will referEe tomorrow’s match between Celtic and Motherwell with David Dickinson on VAR.

Stevie Wonder is doing an excellent job chairing this panel on behalf of the SFA.

    • John Copeland says:

Why is anyone surprised at this ! Decisions like this come with the dinner here in Scawlin! Apple carts aren’t made in Glasgow to be upset … especially by the governing bodies !

    • FSTB says:

Wow how lucky are in Scotland , to not only have officials that are immune to unconscious bias but to also have the best VAR operators in world footbal
      407 checks and only 3 wrong .

  • Paul Mac says:

In a SALLY MCMOIST fashion WHO WERE THE PEOPLE ON THE PANEL … and more importantly what Ludge do they belong to ?

    • Incorporation says:

Spot on but without knowing who the review panel were it’s difficult to pursue. Perhaps a concerted campaign of ridicule at the worst decisions(by ref and panel) would help. Such a campaign would need to be measured and calm to be effective – swearing and abuse gets you nowhere.

  • Scousebhoy says:

Its the incidents that var ignore that is the bigger problem handballs in the penalty box . Shirt pulling are just two examples of the shambles. Who was representing celtic at this farce?.

Editor: In-house comedian Michael Nicholson was at the meeting, I hear that it was some laugh.

  • DixieD says:

So the panel agreed with the decision to give a penalty for the rangers dive at Livingston??

  • Pan says:

I wonder who was on this panel.
Secrecy is the order in Scotland.

  • BriBhoy says:

So, having set and marked their own homework, they awarded themselves a pat on the back and an A+. No doubt Beaton et al also got a few gold stars for being good little boys. I will try to contain my surprise.

  • Ian Francis Mcguigan says:
