The stats that tell you ‘Brendan-ball’ isn’t working

Celtic are unbeaten and top of the SPFL Premiership but only a fool would think that all is well on the park.

Yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Motherwell was tedious and predictable, Stuart Kettlewell had a fortnight to prepare for the match and executed his plan to perfection.

To say that Celtic were predictable is an understatement.

Back in August the hoops drew 0-0 at home to St Johnstone, enjoying 75% possession but producing only five shots on target. Yesterday it was 81% possession and four shots on target- two of them from the penalty spot.

Teams can simply funnel back, organise themselves in and around their penalty box and know that there is little threat from Celtic.

It isn’t a new tactic but one that Ange Postecoglou managed to counter almost without fail. He had wingers attacking with pace, hitting the by-line and a striker and supporting midfielders knowing where the deliveries were coming from.

There was no urgency or purpose about the way that Celtic played, when pushed Motherwell conceded 13 corners which gave them extra time to regroup and organise in defence. Given two corners, the visitors equalised.

Rodgers faces plenty more matches like yesterday. Every manager in the country will have watched and noted how St Johnstone and Motherwell got success.

After a daunting trip to Lazio in midweek the hoops are away to St Johnstone on Sunday, an opportunity for Rodgers to show that he is adapting his tactics to take make 70% plus possession impact on the scoreline.

The worrying thing is now if the ibrox side win both games in hand it’s a 3 point gap and game on. 2 shots on target from open play with all that possession is woeful really. Hoping the dons do us a solid but ????

Callum coming out and saying we will have to regroup, how many times has he said this? This league title is the most important and we are starting to throw it away to the other lot you would think it is us that are toiling for a good bank balance, why does joe hart never come for a ball at a corner, and it does not matter how many corners we get because nothing ever comes of them, time for the board , manager , and players to wake up before that lot gets the ucl money.

    • Scud Missile says:

You mean Callum Tavanier who borrows the excuses book from Tavpen,a couple doppelgangers with those excuses, and we have the CHEEK to laugh at Tavpen as well.
Get the Savlon cream out the cupboard for the champions league game coming up next week as we are going to be walking about with one hellava SORE ARSE,I reckon a granny 6 nil.

  • Eldraco says:

Kyogo too deep , and how are the fouls the same ( almost) with that possession?

Rodgers is gonna have to change tactics it’s that simple, don’t and the title goes .

  • Scud Missile says:

Lol we were absolutely PISH yesterday nobody to blame but ourselves, don’t give me that pish the ref or the officials this time.
They gave us 2 penalties we laugh at sevco for getting these in games to help them out,we got them we scored one and blew the other,OUR OWN FAULT NOBODY ELSE’S.
Sevco will close that gap today make no mistake about br that legally or illegal they will get those 3 points and the PRESSURE will be on us.
Our BOTTLE will crash on the games coming up,sevco will continue on the winning streak and be top by the time they leave Celtic Park December, laughing all the way to bank with automatic entry into the champions league.BOOM!.
    BYE BYE.

We have players that aren’t ready yet that are playing. We rarely sign a player that can go into the team. Maeda and Jota would have created far more. We need to stop signing all project players. Tactics don’t matter when players aren’t upto the level required yet. Atmosphere was flat also which doesn’t inspire anyone, anyone complaining needs to look at their own part in that if they are sitting with the mouths shut.

Absolutely Shite performance yesterday by all accounts…

Looks like we got outta jail thanks to The Sheep thankfully –

But just how bloody bad are we at penalties…

And have been for years – Even Henrik missed a lot –

The last guy at Celtic I was confident taking penalties was Mark Reid…

And that was 40 years ago !!!
