Brendan Rodgers has revealed that there is interest in Harry Kewell from a couple of clubs.

On Thursday it emerged that that the Celtic coach was wanted by Yokohama F Marinos to succeed Kevin Muscat as they continue the Australian theme running through the club since 2018 when Ange Postecoglou was put in charge.

Kewell has been at Celtic for 18 months, brought in last summer by Postecoglou when his managerial/coaching career looked in doubt after stints in charge of Oldham and Barnet.

At Celtic the former Leeds United winger has been out on the grass every day, working with top level players and under two highly respected bosses.

Kewell still has ambitions to go it alone, speaking to The Sun Rodgers admitted:

There’s interest in Harry from a couple of clubs. I spoke to him about it after the Hibs game in midweek. I think it’s great when that happens.

I always like to have talented people around me and when you have talented people, there’s always a chance that they will get the opportunity to move.

I’ve always been someone who thinks if a move can really help a player or coach in their career and their family’s position in life, then they need to go ahead and explore it.

There’s nothing concrete at the moment, but we’ll have to see how it develops in the coming days.

You never know how it will go until someone manages, but Harry’s done that job before. He’s not new to it. He’s had a sample of it by managing at a few clubs, so he understands the pressures of being the No?1.

I’ve really liked working with him. Harry and all the other guys have been outstanding since I came in.

He’s a very conscientious guy. He was a top player and he made a bit of a commitment coming to Celtic. He contributes really well to our coaching team here.

Taking charge of Yokohama, picking up on the infrastructure set up by Postecoglou and Muscat would appear to be the perfect opportunity for Kewell to get back into the firing line.

Staying on at Celtic until the winter break would seem the logical break, giving Rodgers time to bring in someone new to work alongside Gavin Strachan and John Kennedy.
