Antwerp’s 3-2 win over Barcelona last night ensured that Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his Sevco European heroes with forever have their own place in the Champions League record books.

Simply the worst. Six defeats from six matches with a goal difference of -20. Just as well they were in such a weak group last season with Napoli the only club to return to this season’s competition.

Antwerp went into last night’s match on the back of five defeats on the bounce and a worrying goal difference of -10.

A win by 11 goals for Barcelona would have made the Belgian’s the worst ever team to play in the six match stage of the competition but with a new format next season the record of Sevco’s 2022 stars will stand for all time.

Red Star Belgrade were the worst side in this season’s competition, after a draw in matchday one they lost their next five, rounded off at home to Manchester City.

There were plenty of highlights to last season’s Ibrox campaign but nothing really to compare with a 7-1 defeat from Liverpool.

After a ‘respectable’ 2-0 defeat at Anfield hopes were high for the visit of Jurgen Klopp’s side who were having a nightmare domestic season with defeats from Leeds at home and away to Nottingham Forest before the World Cup break.

When Scott Arfield opened the scoring the joy exploded among the bears but a word or two from Andy Robertson and the introduction of Mo Sallah resulted in a seven goal response with framed images available in the Ibrox Club Shop the following day with bonus MyGers points for the loyal bears.

They always have the photos of the league cup on show the other day still to flog,I’m sure big BENNY and Sam Dingle and the rest of their mates will be itching for a photo and to part with any money they have.

Delighted with the win…but not fooled …We got something we don’t normally get…and that’s the breaks…I’m usually left frustrated at the bad luck we seem to attract in the CL…but last night we got some good luck for a change…and it gave us the win we were praying for…They were a very decent side…and will feel that a draw would have been fair.. But we’ve been there often…So we’ll take the win and go onwards and upwards…I hope….Hail hail.

Last night’s game was an apparent ‘dead rubber ‘ with nothing to play for . Not the game I witnessed ! End to end attacks , edge of the seat football , brilliant saves from both goalkeepers and much , much more than a nothing game . It kinda makes you wonder then what inspired Billy Leckie of the Scottish Sun to open his diatribe piece about a Celtic fan running onto the pitch after the second and winning goal was scored ? Out of all the fantastic openings to a tabloid tale from an alleged ‘neutral ‘ scoop ,he picks the most negative and adverse beginning to a story possible .Talk about direct selective criticism ?

Leckie is….and always has been…a Hun.
Its a very helpful tool to have in Scottish media circles….or the Square if you prefer.
