Gus Lagerbielke transfer shock

Two nights after scoring against Feyenoord in the Champions League Gus Lagerbielke is reading that he is available for transfer from Celtic in January.

With just over two weeks to go before the transfer window opens discussions will already have taken place between the player and his agent who recommended Lagerbielke while he was sorting out Carl Starfelt with a move to Celta Vigo.

Maik Nawrocki was already signed before Celtic turned to Elfsborg for another central defender, with the emergence of Liam Scales and a new contract for Stephen Welsh there are clearly too many central defenders at the club.

Stephen McGowan of the Daily Mail reports:

CELTIC are prepared to listen to offers for Champions League goal hero Gustaf Lagerbielke in the January window.

A £3million capture from Elfsborg in August, the 23-year-old substitute scored a dramatic late winner in the 2-1 win over Feyenoord in midweek.

Speaking ahead of today’s Premiership clash with Hearts, however, assistant manager John Kennedy acknowledged the need to reduce the number of defenders in a bloated squad.

Emergency loan signing Nat Phillips is expected to return to Liverpool, with Swedish international Lagerbielke and Japanese defender Yuki Kobayashi the other candidates to go out in search of first-team action when the transfer window opens on January 1.

With a win at Ibrox and Champions League goal to his name, and a red card, Lagerbielke has had a lively couple of months at Celtic.

Nat Phillips is likely to return to Liverpool next month, if Yuki Kobayashi returns to the J-League Rodgers will have a more manageable four options for two positions as he selects from Cameron Carter-Vickers, Scales, Welsh and Nawrocki.

If this is indeed the case,it’s a shambles.Guy was only signed in summer for 3 million quid.Who is responsible for this and other signings who are surplus to requirements, and who will be shipped in January ,mostly out on loan.Think we all know the answer to that.Manager needs control of transfers over next two windows.End of.

To be fair (I know, I know) at the time he was signed nobody expected Scales to become a regular starter – unless it was for Aberdeen – and the injuries to Welsh, Carter-Vickers and Naiwrocki made the signing of another two CBs necessary, one on loan, one ‘permanent’ (just not THAT permanent). For all that his stock his currently high after the goal against Feyenoord he is hardly indispensable and if he’s the one being cut loose to trim the squad, I’d like to think it was after evaluation against the other four…….
