It seems that Brendan Rodgers has been sitting on an incredible put down for just over three weeks.

Whilst bears fumed and lost the plot, backed up by their legacy and fan media partners the whole of Scottish football focussed on The Great Conspiracy that denied the Ibrox Tribute Act a penalty at Celtic Park.

Three statements were released from the club to their loyal messengers with Heart & Hand told that a request had gone in not to have Willie Collum involved in any future matches, something that the SFA have so far gone along with.

All sorts of conspiracies were hatched involving the match referee who teaches Murray Park starlets in his day job and the guy that gave Rangers a penalty against Celtic while he had turned away from the ball.

There was no sign of restraint, barely anyone dared to suggest that Abdallah Sima was offside when John Lundstram crossed the ball his way, absolutely no one in legacy media highlighted the absence of a VAR check on the David Turnbull penalty claim when he was wiped out by James Tavernier and bailed out by assistant referee Callum Spence wrongly putting his flag up.

Yesterday Celtic were again the victims of numerous dubious VAR decisions, not helped by releasing images with two thick lines drawn that had no relevance to any of the players involved.

Rather than question those decisions Rodgers highlighted the third minute VAR check for a penalty when Liel Abada was clearly in an offside position.

In front of the clever lads of the Scottish media delivery is everything. In August 2021 Malmo boss Jon Dahl Tomasson did it perfectly as the hacks played dumb over financial issues at Ibrox.

The next night two goals from Antonio Colak brought great joy to fans across Scotland as Malmo reached the Champions League Play Off, a few months later Mister Gerrard quit for Aston Villa.

Rodgers wasn’t quite as direct but he got his message out just as clearly with no-one in the room attempting to pick holes in his logic.

Meanwhile one group of angry bears have got fresh reason to get angry, again. They certainly don’t do irony.
