Brendan Rodgers has already turned down some additions to the Celtic squad.

Nineteen days into the window and two days before the first post-break fixture only Nicolas Kuhn has been signed with the former Rapid Vienna winger not available for Sunday’s match against Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup.

Last summer Mark Lawwell presented the incoming manager with seven star project signings with only Luis Palma making any significant impact on the Starting XI.

As well as those seven signings Tomoki Iwata’s loan was converted to a permanent move while Paulo Bernardo and Nat Phillips arrived on loan to an already bloated squad.

Typical of the lack of thought put into recruitment was in midfield where Odin Thiago Holm and Kwon Hyeok-kyu joined Iwata and Bernardo in fighting for effectively one place in the team due to the outstanding form of Callum McGregor and Matt O’Riley.

Back in June Rodgers praised the outstanding work of Peter’s laddie, having had to make something out of those signings it seems that the Celtic boss is much more reluctant to rubber stamp the projects being put his way.

If it was just about numbers we could have had people in on January 1st but it’s not, it’s about getting about quality in and that can take time.

Rodgers appears to have a couple of positions in mind for strengthening, with more than 30 players in the first team squad it seems that it will be quality over quantity this month. All eyes are on Lawwell Junior to identify and get deals for those players completed, six months after Rodgers first pointed out the need for four quality additions to the Celtic squad

    Asking for the impossible.

Spending what we did on transfers 20 years ago on projects is the only thing clownshoe and son know.
