Brendan Rodgers is expecting to get one or two signings completed in the ‘early period of the month’.

Five days into the January transfer window there are no genuine signs of business being completed.

Under Ange Postecoglou Celtic had the bulk of their signings completed ahead of the transfer window opening, last season Alistair Johnstone made his debut at Ibrox on January 2 having already been training with his new team-mates.

After an underwhelming summer window in which only Luis Palma of seven signings has made an impact on the first team Celtic supporters are looking for quality arrivals this month, first team starters to arrive and make an instant impact.

Outlining his own expectations, Rodgers told The Sun:

The club will do absolutely everything it can to support what we need and what the team needs. There is lots of work going on in the background, and I’m pretty sure that in this early period of the month we can have some joy and get one or two in.

The early period of the month is open to interpretation but with the next match being played on January 21 supporters will be expecting to see additions to the side that kicks off the defence of the Scottish Cup at home to Buckie Thistle.

Signing a ‘quality’, first team goalie this month,

could make the biggest, positive impact ?

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

It could indeed Bob (original) and Sevco always beat us hands down in this particular team division…

We need less lightweights as well for sure –

And let’s just get Shankland firstly for our own good (He’d score for fun – unlike Oh)…

And it’d really piss of The Sevco Huns on the magnitude of an earthquake !

        Sorry. That’s bullshit.

We ha e had some fantastic goalies over the past 15 years or so.

        Boruc
        Forster
        Gordon
        Hart

I’d take everyone of them over the goalies the hun have had

        • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Cannot disagree TRAR that the goalies you name were indeed fantastic for Celtic over the last 15 years or so…

I should’ve actually said that I’d based this on ma 44 years of being a Celtic supporter in which time they had McCloy, Woods, Goram, Klos, McGregor and now Butland who seems decent enough standard.
Even in the year they lost Klos to injury in February they dug out sone unknown called something like Watterhoose I think and still managed to win the league –

I just don’t seem to remember them ever having disasters like we did with Andrews, Muggleton and Marshall et al…

Just to add – I played in goal as a youngster and ma hero of that era was Packie Bonner – He was often left very exposed in a very attack minded Celtic team in The 80’s but produced a lot of pure fab saves and had a decent winners medal record against very able Aberdeen and Dundee United teams that were doing brilliantly in Europe…

While I love Celtic being as dominant as we’ve been since The Millennium and breaking all the records in Scottish Football, The 80’s was a very competitive and exciting decade in Scottish Football until a cripple chose to will fully destroy it to feed his own fat inflated ego –

Still one good result of it was the death of Rangers (c.2012) !

        Shankland is a No-Go!
Tony watt is a better option. Think about it!

  • the maister says:

Problem is, any experienced player(s) that could make a diff. to our squad only have to look down south, to double, or treble their wages!
It is a fact we are faced with here in the SPFL.
Get Tony watt back as he scores goals!
    Local Knowledge, it is called!
