The Nottingham Post has named Celtic as the club leading the race to sign Scott McKenna.

After three great seasons at the City Ground following his move from Aberdeen the defender has fallen out of favour in the final year of his contract.

Normally that wouldn’t be much of an issue as he runs down his deal then moves on elsewhere on a lucrative contract as a free agent.

Scotland’s appearance at the European Championship Finals in Germany complicates that plan with McKenna having to get matches and find form if he is to make the cut and be part of Steve Clarke’s squad.

Assessing his situation the Nottingham Post/Nottinghamshire Live reports:

There is still some uncertainty around Worrall’s future – and he does have admirers – but he has been brought back into the fold under the Portuguese boss. And with Willy Boly and Moussa Niakhate on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, and Felipe injured, the Nigel Doughty Academy graduate is likely to be required to play, at least in the short-term.

However, the situation is unlikely to change for Scott McKenna. The promotion-winner is out of contract in the summer and appears set to move on this month. Celtic are among the clubs linked with his signature.

A month ago it would have made perfect sense for Celtic to sign McKenna but in that period Stephen Welsh and Maik Nawrocki have performed well after being brought in from the cold.

Those two look very capable deputies for the first choice pairing of Liam Scales and Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Although the former Spurs man has had his injury issues when fit he plays. At the end of the summer window Nat Phillips was brought in from Liverpool on loan but struggled for game time, having been out of the Forest side since September a move to Celtic is unlikely to guarantee McKenna a guaranteed route to first team football.

Exactly what I think. Our priorities should be in other areas. If we don’t sign a top ‘keeper then the fat baztard Lawwell is holding us back, AGAIN!
