Philippe Clement has been complaining about the crazy contract situation that he has walked into.

Having done his due diligence before inheriting Micky Beale’s squad the former Monaco boss would be well aware that he was becoming the fourth manager in two years at the troubled club. Picking up on the disastrous recruitment over the previous three summers.

Most attention has been on Beale’s summer scoops with Danilo, Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers costing £14m plus the same again or more on long term contracts.

The previous summer Ben Davies, Rabbi Matondo and Ridvan Yilmaz cost around £10m with long term contracts, similar to free agents John Souttar and Tom Lawrence.

While those players are tied to long term deals Borna Barisic, Kemar Roofe, John Lundstram, Ryan Jack and Leon Balogun will become free agents in May with no suggestion that any of them will be staying around at Ibrox.

Transfer progress has been challenging so far in the January window, normally Clement gives very little away but at today’s media conference opened up on the state of his squad.

We are not the most wealthy club in the world, I know that. So we want to get transfers in that can have an impact now but also can have added value for the next couple of years.

This season to have five players out of contract is a crazy situation because you throw away money.

They have no value any more if the contract is ended. If you look back I think that’s something the club has missed.

According to the post accounting date note in the 2022/23 Ibrox accounts £13m was lost of the Beale Revolution and pay off with the Tribute Act now having the biggest wage bill in Scotland.

Last I heard was-Little Micky B looked them in the eyeballs & the little Micky liked what he’d seen, surely that’s good enough for D Phillippe or any aspiring manager..!!

As much as I hate that lot, in some ways i wish we had a board like theirs. I don’t mean spending what you don’t have but backing the manager properly. Nobody can say they haven’t backed their managers albeit they have bought some mince. Can you imagine them sitting with over 70m in the bank? They would blow us away if they had that money.

But they don’t have £70 million
And as for them backing their managers they won 1 league in 12 years, the Covid league ?
