After 23 months involving dozens of match officials John Beaton and Andrew Dallas have history on their shoulders today with a World Record within reach.

Just one more session of inspired defending mixed with honest mistakes and the Ibrox Tribute Act will surpass Barcelona’s 74 match run of not conceding a penalty in a league match.

It could be argued that with VAR in place for the majority of that run that the efforts of Giovanni van Bronckorst, Micky Beale and Philippe Clement has already surpassed peak-Barca.

An investigation is on going into consultancy payments made by Barcelona to a company run by the Head of Refereeing in La Liga, thankfully there are no financial inducements involved in the current Ibrox run.

Kevin Clancy was the last SFA referee to point to the spot against the Ibrox side in the SPFL, since that fateful night at Pittodrie almost two years ago Scott Brown and Allan McGregor have retired, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent left Ibrox as free agents with the goalscorer, Lewis Ferguson moving to Italy, captaining Bologna and becoming the top scoring Scot in Serie A with more goals than Dennis Law, Joe Jordan and Graeme Souness.

Beaton has been key to several matches in the 74 match run, at Ibrox exactly a year ago he denied Celtic a penalty when Connor Goldson used both hands to save a Carl Starfelt shot.

Dallas has a long track record of knowing the script dating back to his schooldays, in February 2019 he set a new benchmark by awarding four penalties against St Mirren on a trip to Ibrox.

It’s an anomaly. Penalty champions of the world. Of course Killie might get one when they’re 0-4 down.

    • Scouse bhoy says:

Send those astonishing statistics to all the gutless sports media.

      • KC67 says:

Their chums at Parkhead are happy for it to continue, that’s what they think of the Celtic support.

Another bunch of shameless gutless charlatans.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

You almost called it right Paddybhoy – Kilmarnock were NEVER getting that one at 0-0 but at 2-0 it was…

So the SFA refs only hold the joint world record of games without a league penalty against one of their football clubs – in fact their newest one of 11 years and 127 days as of today !

  • Tam says:

Those referees and the SMSM SFA/SPFL have no shame no shame whatsoever with the excuses and cheating on “the rangers” behalf.. as I’ve said before….if the punishment for cheating is NO punishment why stop cheating

  • Murph says:

Sevco are a truly remarkable outfit. 12 years old and having already accomplished an unsurpassed attempt at the Champions League are now on the cusp of a new world record for penalties not conceded.
All this despite the implementation of VAR and having a backie-in. Not to mention they already have managed a 44 game penalty free run previously.
They’ve been in the premiership for 7.5 seasons in which 3.5 they have managed to not concede any penalties.
And they believe that the league is biased. Against them.

  • Bob (original) says:

    Yet, our Board remains silent.

Our Board also remained silent throughout 2011 / 12.

Our Board is complicit – again – in the industrial-scale cheating in Scottish football?

    🙁

Mcinnes will be fckd today as he wont be a pundit bumming up the manky mob. Hes never away fae the place.??

  • John A says:

Let’s be honest, this is some achievement and this record deserves to be recognised properly by the Scottish media who are denying rangers an incredible achievement

  • Captain Swing says:

You’d think they’d have the savvy to award the odd penalty against them in games where they’re winning 3-0 or something, just for appearances sake, but it’s the Glasgow & Lanarkshire Referees Associations were talking about here!

On that subject, are there now no refs from outwith Glasgow and surrounding counties at all? There used to be the likes of Bob Valentine (Dundee) and George Smith (Edinburgh) and such like but appears it’s exclusively Glasgow, Lanarkshire and Ayrshire now… anybody got a pal in the lodge who can explain?

  • John Copeland says:

It’ll be highly enlightening to see how McInnes sets out his team and tactics against his true love clumpany today ? Somehow I don’t think they have anything to be concerned about in downtown Govan land …..not in the slightest !
