After one match for Motherwell Adam Montgomery is facing three months out of action after picking up a hamstring injury in training.

The 21-year-old had his loan spell at Fleetwood Town cut short due to a lack of playing time with a switch to Motherwell appearing to offer the ideal solution.

Montgomery started at left-back in Saturday’s Scottish Cup win over Alloa but now looks like being sidelined until the final weeks of the season.

At 10.41 this morning The Sun reported:

MOTHERWELL have been rocked by a serious injury to full-back Adam Montgomery – just days after he joined on loan from Celtic.

SunSport understands the 21-year-old has suffered a hamstring injury in training and is set to be sidelined for THREE MONTHS.

The player – who made his sole Well appearance against Alloa in the Cup last weekend – will go for scans to find out the extent of the injury.

But it’s a bitter blow to Well boss Stuart Kettlewell whose threadbare squad has been hit by a succession of injuries this season.

Montgomery will probably return to Celtic for his rehab knowing that this season is virtually a right off after a solid stint at St Johnstone last season.

Returning to action in late April the 21-year-old will be hoping to get involved in the post-split fixtures as Motherwell chase a top six finish.

Montgomery made his Celtic debut towards the end of the Lockdown season, in total he has started eight matches for Celtic and made 12 appearances off the bench.
