After leaving Fleetwood Town at the end of last week Adam Montgomery is reported to be close to joining Motherwell on loan.

The English outfit are onto their third manager of the season after Scott Brown signed the left-sided defender or midfielder while his Fir Park debut will make it four SPFL clubs that Montgomery has played for since e made his Celtic debut towards the end of the Lockdown season.

Injuries and changes at Fleetwood left the 21-year-old on the sidelines but going quickly back out on loan suggests that he is fit and ready to get his career moving again after his first experience of the English game.

Late on Sunday night the Daily Record reported:

Motherwell are leading the chase to sign Celtic’s Adam Montgomery.

The Steelmen are looking to fight off interest from several Premiership rivals and English clubs to land the left-sided defender. ‘Well boss Stuart Kettlewell made a left-back a priority after Huddersfield recalled Brodie Spencer. Kettlewell pitched after Celtic recalled Montgomery from his loan spell at Fleetwood Town last week.

After loans at Aberdeen, St Johnstone and Fleetwood it seems unlikely that Montgomery is about to break into the Celtic side but a successful stint at Fir Park should give him options when it comes to moving on permanently.

With training resuming this week Brendan Rodgers is expected to be looking for loan deals for a number of players with Kwon Hyeok-kyu joining St Mirren on loan last week.
