Cameron Carter-Vickers injury update

Cameron Carter-Vickers has restarted training and is in contention for a place in the Celtic side to face Motherwell on Sunday.

The defender was substituted midway through the second half of the home win against Ross County on January 27- his fourth injury absence of the season.

Initially Maik Nawrocki partnered Liam Scales in central defence but Stephen Welsh has started the last three matches in place of the former Spurs man.

A year ago the partnership between Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt was anchoring Celtic to a treble but that sort of stability hasn’t been available this season with a variety of combinations tried including the loan signing- and return to Liverpool- of Nat Phillips.

Giving an update on the American internationalist, The Sun reports:

Carter-Vickers was given the green light to restart training this week after having three weeks of intensive treatment.

The USA international is now in contention to be part of Brendan Rodgers’ struggling side against Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday.

Following the summer departures of Starfelt, Jota and Aaron Mooy Celtic have been badly impacted by injuries to Carter-Vickers, Liel Abada and Reo Hatate.

Getting Carter-Vickers back in the side would be a big boost but with matches against Motherwell, Dundee and Hearts over an eight day period no risks can be taken on what appears to be a recurring hamstring problem.

It won’t matter when he plays – He’ll be targeted unfortunately and very little will be done…

All it needs to put the tin lid on this season is to have Kyogo out with that shoulder and he’ll be targeted –

Certainly at Liebrox and probably by Lunstram !
