One comment from Brendan Rodgers really should be causing panic in the Celtic boardroom this morning.

Most of the problems of this season surfaced in the 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock, the fourth time this season that Celtic have failed to win at home in the SPFL, the third time in four games that they’ve failed to beat Kilmarnock.

Four wingers were used during the match with barely a single cut-back for strikers to work on, when Greg Taylor went off injured Rodgers turned to Alexandro Bernabei who was restricted to four substitute appearances in the first half of the season, mainly failing to make the matchday squad.

Whatever issues are going on at the club the manager is expected to get the best out of the players, the majority of whom were involved in winning a domestic treble last season.

A manager has to get the best out of the 19 players he selects after working with them for a week in training.

With one comment yesterday reported by The Scotsman it appears that Rodgers has given up on the players he selected:

It is not about ability or technique now, it is about mentality. It is about not letting that man go past you and having that drive and composure to play. We saw it the second half, even though we were not under great pressure we kept making it hard for ourselves.

Questioning the mentality of players is a very serious issue, it isn’t something that can be worked on in training.

Throughout football the solution in these situations is to remove the manager, that is easier to do than clear out a dressing room of players on long term contracts.

Who is mainly to blame for Celtic's disastrous season?

Chairman- The decline started with his appointment

Manager- Not the same guy, weak and more powerless

Recruitment- you can't get over four disastrous transfer windows

If Michael Nicholson and Peter Lawwell require any inspiration into taking difficult decisions they can look across the city to see what happened when Michael Beale was removed before the first round of SPFL fixtures had been completed.

Unbelievable, to suggest that Lawwell should be making ANY decisions after his appalling and lengthy record of parsimony and meddling in player selections is frankly ludicrous. Brendan has been telling the board I.e. Lawwell for months he needed four quality additions and got nada, any attempt at deflection to make the manager responsible will be met with derision by anyone with a functioning brain.

Lawwell needs grabbed by the nose and kicked in the baws all the way along London Road.

The other lot no money going from shite football to strong football our lot plenty of money going from strong football to shite football, what has happened to the reports about our finances? They are normally out by now? Is our board embarrassed to say how much more we have in the biscuit tin

Richard,my question is why did Rodgers come back under the same regime that pissed him off first time round, what pish did desmond tell him that he obviously bought, why didn’t he go to his big mate desmond when it was obvious big Pete liewell was running the show again, why did Rodgers concede to the board and agreed “to work with what he’s given” a top class manager would never have agreed to that ,£3 million pounds softens the blow though. This board under liewell is definitely the main cause of our demise but I think the manager with his slow ,mind numbing side to side back to goalie non penetrative football tactics have to shoulder some of the blame.

    • Richard Hamilton says:

Jim, I cannot tell you what the private agreement the parties involved came to in their Mallorcan discussions, only they know.
I assume Brendan sought assurances regarding player trading after his previous experience and has been sold a pup but nobody as I said except them know for a fact. I agree with you that the tactics at times bring frustration to ever higher levels, but that is in large part due to the lack of support the manager received in the last windows, buy cheap and hope for the odd Jota return is the model under Lawell there is something deeply disturbing at Celtic right now, Desmond’s cronies in charge hoarding £100 million or more awarding themselves 65% increases in payments from a club built to feed the starving masses of the east end, tell me jim what is the difference between this shower and the Whyte/Kelly regime, Lawell and the rest of them have nothing but contempt for the average supporter, buy your season book, buy the latest strips and shut up. we know best.

      • Jim Duffy says:

You’re right Richard this board are exactly the same as the whtyes and kellys, what annoys me the most is that sevco have been on the bones of their arse for years now, surviving by confetti share issues,we are loaded and now sevco look like they will overtake us in the league. At times I wish we had sevcos board running us ,they have never been shy at dipping into their own pockets even knowing they would never see their money again, all our greedy bastards do is take take , especially the multi billionaire desmond who never ever helped out,as for the sevco board if they had the chance we had they would have put us six feet under ,but liewell and co want them to survive, remember when Murray tried to get his personal bank ,bank of Scotland to foreclose on our loan and shit us down.I just can’t believe we have regressed so much ,we have better players so why can’t Rodgers get a tune out of them, his fault or not I think he’s lost the dressing room, the team looked clueless and helpless yesterday even calmac looked bereft of ideas and looked lost.

  • Eldraco says:

As well asplaying to much backward and sideways they are also very unfit now why is this?. Are the coaches sabotaging the gaffer ?they are after all PL men.

    • Jim Duffy says:

Eldraco,I think our coaches need to go as well Kennedy been there far too long as well as Strachan, what I blame our coaches for us our ineptitude at defending set pieces, corners etc so we can’t defend them and we sure as hell can’t score from them either, what is with this short fuckin corner ,what is any teams successful scoring rate from short corners? At least if you fire a ball into the box it might go in of someone’s arse ,shin ,big toe ,every team seems to score against and most of the time it’s set pieces that we can’t defend, who’s fault is that.?

  • Eddiebhoy67 says:

Brenda is a dud,and that he has been caught out all season by coming out second best in games against nickel&dime managers.
Managers that are being paid washers in wages getting the best of a cunt being paid millions.
The fans are being CONNED right left and centre, long may it continue because of their DAFTNESS.

  • Jim Duffy says:

    Hail Hail Richard !!!!

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

I suppose he’s speaking the truth in part and most folk would take that on board and try to improve for their own pride but most importantly for the sake of their supporters…

But this lot – Oh Bloody Hell, the wee snowflakes weren’t giving a continental fcuk anyway so they’ll probably definitely chuck it big time now –

However I’m happy for to be proved wrong and left with egg all over ma double chin !
