Lennon Miller has been sharing details of his brief encounter with Brendan Rodgers.

At the age of 17 the midfielder has been a regular in the Motherwell midfield this season barring injury, setting up Blair Spittal for the opening goal against Celtic on Sunday with an instinctive move that sold a dummy to Callum McGregor.

It was the sort of trick that others sit up and take notice of, it would be a shock if Rodgers hasn’t discussed the performance of the young Motherwell midfielder with his captain.

Miller scored for Motherwell as a 16-year-old at the start of the season and displays the maturity to match his physique which doesn’t look out of place in the rough and tumble of the SPFL Premiership.

Asked about his brief discussion with Rodgers at the final whistle on Sunday, Miller told the Daily Record:

He just said ‘well done’ and ‘good luck for the season’. It’s nice to get recognition from the people who have had such a good career in the game. I don’t really look at social media, it doesn’t really affect me. I just need to show what the manager what I can do each day in training and on a Saturday.

Miller’s development and performance on Sunday will have given Rodgers food for thought, at the same age with Celtic he’d be playing in the Lowland League.

Ben Summers (19), Ben McPherson (19) and Mackenzie Carse (19) are out on loan in The Championship while 18-year-old Daniel Kelly has sat on the Celtic bench unused in the last six matches.

In November Miller signed a new contract for Motherwell, securing him until 2026 although it is likely that offers will come in this summer.
