Celtic are reported to be in talks with Rocco Vata over a new four year contract.

The teenager is in the final year of his first professional contract, a three year deal and seemed certain to be on the way out with strong interest reported from Italian clubs.

Following the winter break Vata was a surprise inclusion for the squad to face Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup. Coming off the bench to score his first senior goal.

Vata has been on the bench for the four matches since but has yet to get on the park to add to the four brief substitute appearances that he made last season.

After discussing the contract offer to Liam Scales, Scott Burns of the Daily Record reported:

Celtic are also in talks with young striker Rocco Vata over a new deal. The Republic of Ireland under-21 cap is out of contract in the summer and has been offered a new four year contract, but those talks are still ongoing.

With three forwards back from the Asian Cup and Adam Idah and Nicolas Kuhn signed last month it is hard to see where Vata could feature in the remainder of this season unless there is a bad run of injuries.

After three seasons playing in the Lowland League it seems that the lack of pathway rather than financial matters is the biggest hurdle to overcome.

At the start of this season Ben Summers went on loan to Dunfermline with Ben McPherson joining Queens Park- after they had both signed new contracts.
