Brendan Rodgers is hoping to have Alistair Johnston back playing before the end of this month.

The defender suffered a serious facial injury in the opening minutes of the 2-1 win over Hibs and missed Sunday’s Scottish Cup win away to St Mirren.

With the way that he fell and being rushed to hospital it appeared that Johnston would be looking at a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

No detail has been released about a cheekbone or skull injury but it appears that the Canadian internationalist is already on the comeback trail.

His fitness and availability was the first question for Rodgers at his lunchtime media conference.

kkkkkkkkkkkkk

How is your squad for the weekend and how is Alistair Johnston now you have had more time to assess and look at his injury?

He is still not available. We are hoping that he might be involved in the next week to ten days. We are assessing that as we go along but he is doing work out on the pitch. He is keeping up his fitness. We just have to be mindful of the contact.

Tony Ralston replaced Johnston at Easter Road and was a more than adequate replacement in the Scottish Cup win away to St Mirren.

If Ralston continues to impress at right-back there would be a good case for him being the first choice in that position.

Next weekend Celtic are away to Motherwell, host Dundee in midweek then face a major test away to Hearts on March 3.

    Yes, a
    ” More Than Adequate”
replacement is Anthony Ralston. But I think we all ken that!
But Rodgers has not been kind to the Canadian kid, whose culture is more familiar with Ice-Hockey than
    “Soccer”!
Rodgers overplayed him in my opinion, to the detriment and injury to the player.
A young kid, far away from home, alone, in a different culture, with only fellow-professionals for friends!
He should have been looked after better!
Ralston should have been given more game time.
Now he will get all the game time – because the Young Canadian is fairly seriously injured.
Rodgers has looked out for No.1 in my opinion. He got what he wanted out of Johnson, but at a price – to Johnson, of course!
He could have got it a different way, by playing them both. But he didn’t.
Which smacks of desperation from Rodgers, from where I stand.
Rodgers doesn’t have his Tacticts or his Numbers men with him this time, to inform him for his manegerial decisions.
So, it is very much a gamble for him and Celtic this time around. But, hey, we’ve been here before, haven’t we?
Just now it is close, very close.
But no-one knows how the season will pan out. Now, do they?

In fairness you need a fairly regular back four. Chopping and changing the back four and goalkeeper is never, ever a good idea.

      • the maister says:

        You don’t need a
        “Fairly Regular Back Four”
any more than you have to keep putting the ball in your opponents net!
No more lectures from you, please!

    • CHRIS says:

Yes injuries have not help Rodgers getting a settled team and some supporters waving Palestinian flags I’m a Celtic supporter I’m not much for politics so flying a flag that is meant or not is making it impossible one of our family to play as he is Israeli and it looks bad for him and his family who these people are chasing one of best players out of the club I know something for me Celtic come before Palestinian if it comes to it I’d rather won the league and let governments sort out political unrest someone has written all celtic supporters join the green brigade singing grace for support of Palestinian I font know who if the green brigade has an officail leader or some one are just using them or Celtic support grace is sung at e very home game so to try and say when it sung it’s for Palestinian support I just hope no one puts a Palestinian flag in my face I’ll let them know I’m here for celtic and abda plays for celtic

    • An Tearmann says:

You will be abhorred to know that all Russian clubs were removed (banned) from all FIFA and UEFA competitions two years ago Jack.

      • the maister says:

He is not making a political point mate.
He is aying that Abada should be scoring goals for Celtic, only he isn’t!

    • Chris says:

Another tadger talking pish who can’t even put full stops in place so as to make it legible.

It’s a pity Chris that they didn’t teach you properly at primary school

  • Jack says:

    Hit a nerve wannae be

  • the maister says:

So Rodgers is now quoted as saying that Abada can leave on loan if he doesn’t
    “Feel Quite right”
    or
    “Ready”
    to play for Celtic.
    Well, fock me!
There were plenty days at work I felt the same. But nobody came up to me and said I could go out on loan!
    Fock’s sake!
So where is he going to go on loan to? Abajabi? The transfer window is shut Brendan, in case you haven’t noticed!
Rodgers had better stop listening to Hun whispers and get the guy ready to play for Celtic’
    That’s his job, remember?
Abada is a pro footballer and he is paid to deliver the goods and Rodgers is paid to make him.
    End of!

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

If you are mindful of the contact on Alastair Johnston Brendan that is very good and well and as it should be…

But the thugs of Motherwell, Dundee and Hearts are lying in wait –

    And target him they will…

And just like The Hibernian thug that assaulted Alastair Johnston – nothing will happen…

And just like after the assault by The Hibernian thug, our board and Brendan will say zilch either !
