Deliberately fanning the flames of a dangerous fire- Jackson accuses Rodgers

Keith Jackson believes that Celtic’s defeat from Hearts was almost all of their own doing.

The veteran Daily Record reporter sat in on a tactical tutorial from Rodgers last week but was decidedly unimpressed by the team selection and formation played at Tynecastle yesterday.

Losing Callum McGregor in midfield was a major blow but if it wasn’t for two incredible decisions prompted by John Beaton and implemented by Don Robertson the outcome of the match would have been very different.

Playing with 10 men for 75 minutes makes a huge impact on a team, having a penalty awarded against them for the most dubious of handballs in another handicap.

Throw those two issues together and most teams are going to end up losing, true there were plenty of areas that Celtic could improve on, that falls on Rodgers but there is an expectation that the Laws of the Game are applied in the same manner in every match.

Jackson takes a different view, in the Daily Record he explains his take on yesterday’s events:

That they failed spectacularly to get the job done was almost all of their own doing, even if manager Brendan Rodgers jabbed one accusatory finger in the direction of ref Don Robertson and another even more forcibly towards John Beaton in the VAR bunker.

By naming Beaton on more than one occasion in his post match media duties, Rodgers was deliberately fanning the flames of a dangerous fire. Yes, between them, Beaton and Robertson may have reached a number of fairly unfathomable decisions. And, true, the calls they collaborated on had a material impact on the match.

But, by pinning the blame for this latest slip up solely on the officials, Celtic are distracting themselves from an inconvenient truth.

Rodgers has his inconvenient truths to deal with all week at Lennoxtown and solutions to find in the remaining weeks of the season.

Going on past form the SFA will remain on mute even though Hibs and St Mirren have both had apologies from them in recent weeks.

Hurry up and sell out the stadium at the next home game remember your all buying into a rigged game.
At least with the wrestling we are guaranteed a joke and a good laugh, but sevco and the SFA are just taking the cunt now.
Look at the amount of handballs Goldson and others at sevco have got away with over the seasons yes plural without one penalty been given then Hearts get a penalty for that.
The Celtic board are on a sponsored silence on this they will do jackshit, all sevco have to do should Celtic decide they want to rock the boat is mention the 5 Way Agreement and Celtic pipe down.
The ganes a bogey, the baw is burst and the fans are doing themselves no favours by continuing to show home and away every week, get the PROTESTS done NOW, not next season that’s to late by then as sevco would have sailed into the sunset with £70 overtaking us with money in the bank, rant over.

  • The Joker says:

Million should be after the 70 on the above post.

  • Dean says:

Compare this to the vendetta against Collum and you’ll see what’s wrong with this country, at least Collum reached the correct decision in a roundabout way, yesterday was blatant cheating and this will continue until the board grow a set and get after these charlatans.

  • The Joker says:

Million should be after the 70 in the above post.

  • Terence Nova says:

10 men have gone on to win many games in the past…no argument…However Yang’s joke dismissal really upset the balance of the team …and the way we play..But…and just as important… it gave the Heart’s left side a freedom it didn’t expect to have …and we didn’t really cope with it….In fact it highlighted just how ordinary some of our players can be…Over to you BR.

    • Terence Nova says:

Just to clarify…I’ve said on other of Joe’s articles…The red card and their penalty decisions came from a highly suspicious source…and needs called out…Beaton should be nowhere near our games…NAIL HIM.

  • The Joker says:

With Beaton taking his orders rom Hampden ad do the other refs as well, that’s why I keep saying I don’t want Scotland anywhere near European Championships or World Cups it only lines the pockets of those cheating bastards at Hampden.
Hence why none of our so called top refs or officials have been nowhere near a major tournament in years there is your answer for how good they are at being a referee, even those 2 corrupt organisations won’t touch them.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

I’m the exact same as yourself !

I used to take an interest (not a financial one but still an interest) in Scotland getting to finals like that…

But The SFA have destroyed that joy with all their cheating and tacit approval of cheats at that –

It makes me pure fcukin sick to see the jollies that Maxwell and his cohorts will enjoy this summer while Cal-Mac will be back a spent force from it all for Celtic next season !

  • Stewart says:

It seems that only a select few can’t have moans about officials and some arnt allowed to,,bad day all round,

  • bertie basset says:

they are circling the wagons to defend beaton , we’ll hear a lot more of it today and going forwards , it understandable for rogers to mention Beaton after the hatchet job he performed for sevco , after all he probably has cost rogers his job and reputation if he is fired , later we’ll have boyd keevins miller mccann the usual suspects adding their spiel .
the one person who handicapped rogers is Lawell , in not supporting him in the transfer market and he also is responsible for creating the Beatons of this world , the fear now is the apathy from celtic fans who see the S F A and the officials as not neutral and the board who turns a blind eye to the cheating , once the money keeps rolling their happy

  • Bob (original) says:

Yesterday was a sore one, but it was always coming.

And there will be a fair few more ‘confusing’ decisions going against

us – and in favour of sevco – through to season end.

And that is why BR – and MN – should have been calling out VAR from

    the beginning of the season.

IF the league goes to the last 1 or 2 games,

then the risk is that VAR will – very controversially – decide where the title ends up..?

    🙁

  • Stephen says:

Over now to the Celtic board back the manger or forever be cheated.

  • Pskel says:

Rodgers 100% correct and it doesn’t matter if Celtic haVe been poor.
It’s Cheating by our officials or incompetence either way no one trust the integrity of our officials they are almost as bad as the sport journalists. Bring back foreign REFs

  • harold shand says:

Back the hun supporting ref to the hilt when he f*cks Celtic over

    Standard media

  • Tony B says:

Interesting use of the word dangerous by Jackson. Why does he consider it so?

Is it because it’s true, and if pursued would unearth a scandal that would rock Scottish football to its rotten core?

    I think so.

  • John Copeland says:

Now we know the truth as to why governing bodies and officials of the game do not want the dialogue between referees and VAR officials to be heard and known during all contentious decisions being reached .If the fans and public had heard the discussions between Beaton and Robertson yesterday there would have been clarity on all of the horrendous decisions made by the men in black ! You’ll notice that big Inaction Jackson conveniently says nothing about that ! Hhhiiicccuupp … ppaarrrpppp .

  • Stevie says:

Shhhhhh you’ll rock the boat? Didn’t hear this when they were calling Willie Colum out.
    Bring it on.

  • Charlie Green says:

If we forget the officials for a moment.
Slight simplification but Celtic have played teams who put 11 men behind the ball for years now and generally lose a goal when the opposition use their 10% possesion to attack so the defence is suspect.
They are not used to playing teams who attack throughout the game when they get the ball like Hearts did and Sevco will.
    That is the problem.
The Sky commentator said Celtic won their last ten games when MaGregor was out so it wasn’t that.
We don’t do well in Europe because teams don’t “park the bus” and have the audacity to actually attack.
The players and the manager are not as good as they think.
Just a thought but could we not have bought Zander Clark and Shankland for that matter?
It would have guaranteed the league so the board are to blame.
    As for the officials
They gave us a soft penalty which would have settled the players had we scored.
The ref might have been looking for it but Yang made it easy for him with that ridiculous tackle.

  • Pa says:

    Jackson is a total hypocrite!
He backed the Beasts when they challenged the SFA.
However, he criticises Celtic for the same thing.
    Disgusting creep,
