David Tanner struggled to hold things together as he turned to Twitter following Benfica’s win at Ibrox last night.
A goal midway through the second half meant the end of the road for Philippe Clement’s side and the prospect of a jolly to Dublin for TalkSPORT’s Scottish football expert.
Apparently Benfica never impressed over both legs, what Tanner’s thoughts are on Clement’s squad can only be guessed at.
It’s the #Benfica fans who celebrate at the end at Ibrox.
The road to Dublin ends early for #Rangers.
This was a missed opportunity for them, no doubt about it. Benfica have not impressed in either leg, yet they’re the first Portuguese side to win here – the 12th to have visited. pic.twitter.com/nvuMJso5t0— David Tanner (@DavidTannerTV) March 14, 2024
Since being dumped by Sky Sports in 2017 it has been a rapid decline for their former SPL anchor, at one stage Tanner took to hosting Hibs TV, his dislike for all things green and white isn’t difficult to uncover.
Recent seasons in Scottish football have certainly been challenging but like the top professional that he is Tanner has mainly been able to put on a brave face even after the most disappointing of results.
I think we’re both right, tbh, Andy.

They were the better tea, for sure. But they are not impressive – so a missed chance for Rangers.

If only Beaton, Dallas, Muir or McLean had reffing this one instead of cheering their heroes on from the stands the result could’ve been different David.

I can sense your tears through this post as your team deservedly go out. Shows what happens when you have competent officials in charge.

Lol wee David Spanner and his sevco tears, what an absolute delight to see.
The wee fud that struggles to read the words at the bottom of the screen, follow the bouncing ball.
Remember this was the doughball that got the job just think the state of the Jeremy Hunts they knocked back.
My mate says he knew Tanner…when he was a thrupnybit…and he was a FUD then as well…Hail hail.
The ‘sevco bus to Dublin’ wasn’t taxed anyway.
Obviously! 🙂
The Ibrox club is putting in a complaint that their player Var Tavpen was not eligible to play in Europe.
