A not so deep dive into the dubious figures of the record breaking Tavpen

BBC Scotland led the celebrations as James Tavernier became the top scoring defender in British football.

It is a little known record, the previous holder was apparently a guy called Graham Alexander who like Tavpen spent most of his career away from the top level.

Among Internet Bampots the goal scoring achievements of the former Wigan ace are a running joke, an anomaly that is so obvious that no mainstream outlet would dare to take a close look into.

Such as, since his appointment in October Philippe Clement’s side have been awarded just three penalties less than Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side were given over two full seasons in charge.

Only a complete idiot would bet against that figure (18) being overtaken in nine or ten remaining matches.

During this record breaking run Tavpen has won the SPFL title just once in seven attempts, during the mysterious Lockdown season when his side didn’t concede a penalty until after the title was won with none of Steven Gerrard’s players sent off in a domestic match.

Being knocked out of the Europa League at home to Slavia Prague, Leon Balogun and Kemar Roofe were sent off during a 15 minute spell by Austrian referee Orel Grinfeld.

Last week the SFA announced that their Head of Refereeing Crawford Allan would be leaving to pursue fresh opportunities at the end of the season.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same more than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying every success for Scotland's Most Successful Club.

This is where the game can be won on Sunday ! Pummel Tavpen relentlessly as he’s never a defender in a trillion years . If Maeda gets the service , he will twist Tavpen into pretzels . Merciless attacks will leave the penalty guy’s head swimming and Goldson is another who is a continuous liability who won’t be covering Mr Tav’s bahookie ?

These are truly incredible statistical anomalies that are off the scale indeed…

Oh man – I dearly miss going to see Celtic but it ABSOLUTELY was the correct decision to chuck it all in…

And probably for good now !

Of those 18 pens that we got, how many were at vital points in the match ie score was tight or opposition were winning? You know like when Sevco were ever needing a goal they just seem to get a penalty for Capt Disappointed to score.
