The regulars at the Brazen Head had another celebrity Celtic visitor this week.

Last year complete in his Double Denim combo, Jota popped in for a look around before heading up the road to Hampden where he scored the only goal of the Scottish Cup semi-final to put down the final deposit on another Treble.

During his first spell in charge Brendan Rodgers made an appearance at the iconic Gorbals pub, earlier this week Maik Nawrocki signed the Visitors Book if there was such a thing.

The defender has had a difficult first season at Celtic, blighted by injuries with the unexpected rise to prominence of Liam Scales effectively sealing one place in the heart of the hoops defence.

The Brazen would never be described as a trendy, hipster pub. It is what it says on the tin and that is a place for Celtic supporters to drop in and feel at home.

Anyone passing by along Pollokshaws Road or Cumberland Street would be in no doubt about the identity of the pub with Celtic’s successes celebrated in banners on the outside.

With no Celtic fans at Ibrox on Sunday business will be brisk at the Brazen which is almost equidistant between the three major Glasgow football grounds.

Great pub that would often be the last on The Celtic after match pub crawl after The Hoops Bar, The Emerald Isle, Bar 67, Bairds, The Sarry Heid, Lynch’s The Welcome Inn, Phillip Mulvey’s The Toolbooth, The Whistling Kirk, and then The Brazen, occasionally Durty Nellies, then a Cheese, Chips n’ Donner in the wee takeaway across the road a bit, then occasionally have to ding the bell and dive of the late night bus to be sick as a dog !

    Aah The Memories…

And The Celtic Board made me give that all up because they wouldn’t say anything…

Bloody Black Burning Shame on them all !

The Brazen Head is a beautiful Celtic pub in the heart of Glasgow. It never hid it’s particular Celtic, Glasgow ethnicity!
I think particularly of the very dark days of
    “The Troubles”
in the north of Ireland, when Glasgow because of it’s Irish immigrant population was intrinsically linked with events there.
I remember particularly the H-Blocks and the Hunger Strikes of the early nineteen eighties, when Ireland was in turmoil and with it, we here in this place as well!
The Brazen Head was a reference point for the Celtic Irish, a reassurance that there was light at the end of the tunnel and that you were not alone!
Long may it continue to be!
