Celtic eased into the home straight in the race for the SPFL title with a 3-0 win over St Mirren.

With four of their final six matches at home the hoops have to take full points to secure a third successive title with the first task ticked off yesterday despite a goal-less first half.

The windy conditions were as much to blame for the first half stalemate as the Saints defence but the visitors resistance lasting for only seven minutes of the second half.

Alistair Johnston’s pass found a gap in the Saints defence but the two touches from Reo Hatate were sublime as he sent the ball into the top corner of the net to ease any gathering nerves.

On the hour mark it was a cross from Johnston that created Celtic’s second goal, deep into the Saints box it wax met perfectly by Kyogo Furuhashi who gave Zak Hemmings no chance from eight yards out.

Adam Idah replaced Kyogo in the 72nd minute, after 86 minutes he powerfully headed home Celtic’s third as Brendan Rodgers’ side cemented top spot and secured a four point lead ahead of the release of the post-split fixtures.
