Watching from afar Chris Sutton knows just how important today’s 3-0 win over Hearts was for Celtic.

The Edinburgh side have taken six expensive points off Celtic this season and arrived in Glasgow with Scotland’s top scorer intent on inflicting more damage on the hoops.

In the Daily Record this morning Sutton highlighted the danger posed by Lawrence Shankland but after a shot in the opening minute the Hearts skipper barely got a look in.

At the other end of the park Kyogo Furuhashi demonstrated his quality and appetite for the big occasion with two clinical finishes in the first 25 minutes, a period in which Hearts had as much possession as the hosts.

The third goal remained elusive until the 87th minute but that ensured that Celtic remained in top gear as they pushed and pressed for the goal to finally kill off any prospect of a comeback from Hearts.

Sutton will be ringside next Saturday for the Glasgow Derby, since the turn of the year there have been times that the title has looked like slipping away but a victory this time next week will put Celtic at least six points clear with two matches left to play.

Tomorrow Sky Sports will be at Ibrox for the visit of Kilmarnock with Sutton expected to be looking on as the pressure switches on to Phil Clement and his squad.

Shankland should have been sent off for a second yellow when he deliberately handled in the box.

    The cheating continues apace.
