Elephant in the room as Celtic fan calls out VAR issues live on SSB

Celtic fan Joe caused a bit of discomfort in the Super Scoreboard studio when he called out the VAR decisions that are now influencing matches.

Without VAR at the Glasgow Derby Celtic may well have lost 2-0, assistant referee Dougie Potter ‘missed’ Nico Raskin being offside when he headed into the net in the first half, early in the second half he had his flag up to wrongly disallowed Adam Idah’s effort for offside.

Even with Andrew Dallas on VAR the decisions were reversed, Raskin’s was disallowed while Idah equalised to give Celtic a draw.

This season James Tavernier has scored five goals, a year ago he was breaking records almost every week with a total of of 21 from 46 appearances in matches where the officials were appointed by Crawford Allan.

The team on SSB were clearly uncomfortable with the issue, they know exactly what is going on but it’s not a subject that they want to cover, unlike Ianis Hagi’s penalty claim or the joys around the corner of the American consortium taking control at Ibrox.

Between slots on Radio Clyde and Sky Sports Gordon Duncan presents the monthly VAR Review with Willie Collum.

From a month of mistakes they edit together 25 minutes of discussion in order to show what a great, honest lad Collum is.

Refereeing this season has been horrendous as Collum tries to push through several clones that have no feeling for the game but wish to be the centre of attention.

Legacy media outlets happily overlook the poor level of decision making on the park and in the VAR room as they fall over themselves to praise Collum for bringing transparency to the murky world of honest mistakes.

Joe McHugh has been Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.
When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.
Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement, cheers big man.
There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same more than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying every success for Scotland's Most Successful Club.

Well, there is ample, fully independent validation of just how competent

    – or not – our match officials are regarded.

The last Scottish referee at a Euros Finals was Willie Collum – back in 2016.

The last Scottish referee at a World Cup Finals was Hugh Dallas – way back in 2002!

[And they now have competent, female match officials at Finals.]

To those outside of Scotland, our match officials have significant room for improvement?

They want stuttering callers making a fool of themselves phoning up

Every once in a while a caller like Joe gets through , a guy who goes to most games and sees things with his own eyes , stating plain facts clearly

That’s why they’re shifting about in their chairs and straight on the defensive , you can hear it the presenter and the ex hun player’s voices

Lol they must have panicked when the guy conducted himself perfectly to call it out, especially with that fake Motherwell supporter supposedly being neutral(NOT).

On another matter rumours tonight that the tyre kickers who showed up for a special guest appearances last week with Ramon Bagwash asking the questions have apparently walked away from the deal and FAKEOVER.

The klub will release a statement in the coming days that the Yanks couldn’t even muster the 51% that was being touted previously they had gained to take over the klub, but the real reason for the deal not going through was the behavior of the Onion Daw-bears over the weekend,a blind eye was being turned by the Yanjs previously, but they stepped over the line at the weekend.

Is it just me or can anyone else feel the instant defensive mode switched into by the guy on the mic?
He definitely reacted like a Sevco fan rather than an unbiased show lead.
You actually can feel dislike for the question and the sarcasm aimed at the caller at the end
