Brendan Rodgers refused to comment on speculation that Jamie Vardy is on his way to Celtic.
One report in The Sun claimed that the former England striker had his heart set on a reunion with his former Leicester City boss.
As a 38-year-old free agent Vardy has surprisingly not signed up for any club and would be available to sign even after the transfer window is closed.
Rodgers has been waiting to replace Kyogo Furuhashi since January but with less than a fortnight to go before the window closes that area of his team still needs boosted.

Would Jamie Vardy be a good signing for Celtic?
YES- Get it done

NO A crazy idea

I would not speak about any individual player. Of course I worked really well with Jamie, he was brilliant for me in my time at Leicester. There has been so many names floated about that I wouldn’t disclose either way.
The Celtic boss has appeared frustrated throughout the transfer window with various deadlines passing without improvements coming in.
Ben Nygren and Kieran Tierney were signed before the start of July but over the last six weeks only back-up striker Shin Yamada has been added.
By the sound of things there will be no 11pm signings tonight leaving Rodgers with his existing squad to book a return to the Champions League group phase by seeing off Kairat Almaty.
Looks a stick on for being dependant on CL quaification.
Even then additions to the Squad are not a stick on. The Celtic(sic) Board want Brendan out and a pliable, deferential manager, in name only, in place going forward.
Maloney / Kennedy dream team for next Season with the Board’s version of Magic MoneyBall in play. Maloney ‘Pathways Manager’ already creating links with appropriate Clubs to deal with farmed out ‘Project’ / Board Punts for development into World Class players, better known as real value added blooded players now available for sale in Year 3 onwards of player’s 4/5 Year Contract.
£100M in the bank, and we get a 38 year old – who nobody else seems to want –
to replace Kyogo?!
It’s not about Vardy, but about how our Board thinks.
Hopefully it’s simply a non-starter…?
…and we’ll get Maloney as a replacement for BR…..a stick on.
It’s already in play. He’s building the Board designed ‘Pathways’ Network with suitable Clubs.
I voted yes purely on the idea that just as Kolo came in and helped the inexperienced back line .. Vardy could improve the inexperienced strikers with their movement etc. His game style is more aligned to that of Idah ,Kenny and Osmond than for example Kyogo’s was .. so for those saying he played alongside a great striker in Kyogo and didn’t develop… Ok but we’re their styles compatible? 1 yr plus an option would not be too bad …
HOWEVER if this is the great idea of the board … And given he has been free for the summer … WHY not bring him in during pre season before now? This board is long past its sell by date and the way we seem to operate is so dated it is not funny! Explain how obviously working to a criteria, the scouting team have highlighted players that the manager (someone with over 20 years experience in working with players) has agreed upon and then sent it for a final decision to an ACCOUNTANT and a LAWYER ? With what FOOTBALL experience? And this is a PROFESSIONAL team not a team in the non leagues ??? Can ANYONE explain??
A fit & healthy Vardy would score 20 here easy, and would end up a hero of the support.
But so did Idah coming off the bench most weeks, plus CL & Sevco goals and he’s a failure.
Go figure.
