Panic sets in at Ibrox over Celtic clash

Seven days ago it was announced that Sky Sports would show the visit of Russell Martin’s side to St Mirren on August 24 but that the game would be postponed if the Ibrox side were involved in the Champions League Play Off either side of the trip to Paisley.

It is an option open to all clubs involved in UEFA Play Off matches, nothing underhand.

When the Ibrox club beat Viktoria Plzen 3-0 in the first leg St Mirren could confidently expect a free weekend, plans could be made for two blank weekends with international football wiping out the Premiership card until September 13.

Loyal bears didn’t have to consider travel arrangements, a ticket ballot, a bit of rest between two matches to return their club into the big time again, a chance to atone for the 2022 humiliation.

And then Dundee drew at Ibrox, Nasser Djiga was sent off and some fans started doing calculations.

If Celtic beat Livingston on August 23 the four-in-a-row Champions would roll up at Ibrox on August 31 with a seven point lead, with the hosts having to do without their best defender.

Statement FC went into panic mode on Sunday, Martin hinted at a u-turn last night at his media conference, this afternoon they made the inevitable announcement.

St Mirren won’t be lacking in motivation next Sunday, or confidence after three matches in a row against the Ibrox side without a defeat.

Clearly Martin thinks that a trip to Paisley without Djiga can be overcome, he is prepared to face St Mirren without the Wolves defender that is needed to play in the match against Celtic.

The 49GERS might be the smartest kids on the block, they might have the best analysists and the secret formula to success in the transfer market.

However the management of the St Mirren fixture has been horrendous, if Celtic can win at home to Livingston the pressure will be on Martin’s side as they kick off in Paisley in the bottom half of the Premiership and trailing the hoops by seven points going into match three.

NOTE: In season 2007/08 the SPL final round of fixtures were played on a Thursday night for the only time ever.

They are on the run already and that’s with the help of Robertson and his linesman on satuarday. And then Beaton and Dallas trying to upset the apple cart.
Let’s hope we get to the international break unscathed and with 4 signings in the door with no outgoings, I’ll be a happy man come my 56 th Birthday on our way to our 56 th Title.

Beaton or Robertson along with Dallas on VAR getting pencilled in right now for their St Mirren game

Just to be 100 % sure this doesn’t blow up in their faces

  • Che says:

We should be more concerned with the board and their corporate greed not about what the ragers are concerned with , stop buying anything and they might listen to the fans and get serious about qualifying for the champions league and winning our domestic league that’s the priority

Editor: You’ll find plenty of content on this website every day of the week highlighting the issues with the Celtic board, I will also highlight and enjoy the problems facing their cherished O** F*** business partners.

All the motivation that St. Mirren need is there in spades now for sure…

C’mon ye Paisley Saints – use it.

Having watched their 1st two lge games there shouldn’t be a team scared of them at all.
The one thing we and every other team should be really scared of are the MiB.
Sevco are nearly impossible to take 3pts off if its 0-0 or your only 1 up.
Teams have to score a minimum of twice against them, and usually that means 2-0, to have any chance of hanging on, otherwise “ the pens are gonna get ye”.

  • Terence Nova says:

    Wee message for Sevco lurkers..Another score-line you don’t deserve…If there’s a time-wasters trophy…you’d piss it…and once again…If ye canny be good…you know the rest.

but that is no longer true.
the hyperbole that the rangers are coming, for the last 4 seasons, just doesnt happen.

VAR has levelled the playing field (ignores the masonic signalling) we can inteprect in an emotional way, or we can just state the facts.

Penalties to them, when in sticky situation, have dried up.
I am convinced, pre var, their offside goal would have been given, but it couldnt be, he was offsied.

The penalty, very subjective, but the facts are –

Last premiership season – Celtic got 8 penalties ……….. 2nd Rangers got 1.

You can smell the fear coming off them.
