The strain of covering every fault at Celtic caught up with Martin O’Neill today.
A 2-0 defeat to Dundee United delivered a massive blow to Celtic’s title prospects and put the focus back on the failings of the club executives.
Michael Nicholson has overseen three horrific transfer windows that have caused deep damage to the playing squad.
After 31 matches in the SPFL Celtic have managed to lose eight times. The fact that are still in contention for the title tells you everything about the ‘quality’ of the division.
Recently O’Neill steered Celtic through a very testing run of four away matches in 10 days that some fans hoped would galvanise the players towards the twin prizes.
That hope evaporated today, in midweek Kasper Schmeichel’s media interviews exposed a number of worrying issues about how Celtic is run.
PROBLEMS PILE UP ON O’NEILL
While the team is winning boardroom scrutiny is on the back burner. It has never been far from the thoughts of supporters despite the fake engagement exercise being run by Brian Wilson.
The Interim Chairman has nothing but utter contempt for supporters, matched by his desire for self survival.
Wilson, Nicholson and Chris McKay felt the anger of fans at Tannadice today.
When that issue was put to O’Neill today the interim manager was dismissive of the core reasons for the anger.
The Sun reports:
Celtic boss O’Neill was asked about the scenes at the end after the match on BBC Radio Scotland.
He said: “That’s nothing new. The minute we don’t have a good result of course people resort to these particular things.
“We disappointed an awful lot of people here today.
“We disappointed the supporters who made their way here for a start and secondly, we disappointed people who support us from a distance.”
O’Neill is kidding only himself if he thinks that the anger and criticism is over three dropped points in the SPFL.
There are deep rooted issues at Celtic that have been papered over by the successes driven by managers. Not the structure or strategy of the club.
Being third in one of the worst leagues in Europe is testimony to the planning of Peter Lawwell and his chosen successor Nicholson.
Dom McKay promised to refresh the club and install ambition beyond being the best team in Glasgow. He lasted 72 days.
Nicholson and Wilson will be desperately hoping that results pick up instantly as they plan their Season Ticket Renewal campaign.
An increase of around 6% can be expected for 19 SPFL matches next season. With no sign of changes as Nicholson goes all out to weaken the squad even further.

Dont like the criticise the fans but anyone who renews is more worried about losing their seat than the wellbeing of the club. That is fact.
It has felt like the club was very deliberately destabilized this season,
ultimately by DD, for whatever reasons.
And, now it does feel like change for the better is simply not on the agenda.
A prolonged period of decline could actually be more likely !
A cash rich club which is being ridiculously mismanaged.
Why did Dom McKay leave ? Was he a threat to these halfwits who now are making a total
arse of this club.
Martin’s team selections also have to be questioned. Different every week. Nancy dajavu today with right back decision when ralston was there? Taking Ineacho off when was target man up front. Maeda makes great runs but nobody seems able to make that pass. Nygren is a hopeless cannae pass water shtebag.
My question is…
What power do they possess that keeps the likes of Dom McKay and Brendan Rodgers quiet !
Totally agree, MoN was and is compliant and effective soup taker for Desmond and his puppets. PLease let’s get back into the real world, if they even cared about the fans we would be thinking about booking parties for 20 in a row and Europen dreams.
