Stuart McCall 2Police Scotland have launched a review of the shameful scenes at Fir Park today involving Bilel Mohsni.

The hot headed defender kicked out at Motherwell’s Lee Erwin after the final whistle, punched the Motherwell striker on the chin then scrapped with other Motherwell players who were acting as peacemakers.

After the game there were reports of Mohsni getting involved with Erwin again as well as clashing with Motherwell fans.

Motherwell beat Sevco 3-0 to complete a 6-1 aggregate win over the 2014 League One champions to ensure Premiership football at Fir Park from August.

Speaking to the BBC assistant chief constable Bernard Higgins said: “Police Scotland will conduct a full review of the circumstances and liaise with the appropriate partners, and decide how best to take the matter forward over the coming days.”

Stuart McCall was one among the group of people that finally got Mohsni down the tunnel but claimed that he never saw any blows being landed.

The current Ibrox boss said: “If he has thrown a punch that’s disgraceful but it’s safe to say he won’t be at the club next season. He’s out of contract.”

Interviewed by BT Sport shortly after the incident Erwin said: “I tried to shake Mohsni’s hand to wish him all the best but he told me to ‘f*** off’. I pushed him away and he reacted badly. A player at a club at that level shouldn’t be acting like that. It’s embarrassing for him and the club. But I wish him all the best.”

Mohsni was signed by Ally McCoist two years ago and has been at the centre of a number of controversial incidents and started the season off with a red card for head-butting Chris Martin during the friendly defeat at Derby County.

After that red card McCoist said: “We speak about the downside of Bilel, but him and Lee McCulloch scored in the region of 30 goals for us and that’s a reasonable return for your centre-halves.

“I sat with him and watched the incident again on Sunday and the boy has fouled him but you can’t react in the way that he did. He knows he would be a better player if he can get rid of it, we all know that.”

After gesturing at supporters and getting a retrospective two match ban from the SFA following a 3-1 home defeat from Hibs in October McCoist said: “We have had a conversation, Bilel is a temperamental guy but following our conversation he knows he won’t beat the fans – there is no point arguing with them. He also cannot react the way he did after we scored our goal.”

“He has let himself down a couple of times recently, particularly at Derby, but I have got more sympathy for him from Monday’s incident than I did at Derby.

“On Monday he didn’t handle well the aggression shown towards him. He put his arm around the back of the lad’s head which you can’t do.”

The SFA are also expected to launch an enquiry into the scenes of shame at Fir Park.
