Dedryck BoyataCeltic are set to announce the signing of Dedryck Boyata from Manchester City.

The defender met up with Ronny Deila, John Collins and Peter Lawwell and will put pen to paper on a permanent transfer with a token transfer fee going to the Premiership side.

With Jason Denayer returning to Manchester City after a successful loan spell bringing in a quality replacement was one of Deila’s priorities.

Boyata had options to move to other Premiership sides but the chance of a move to Celtic and the prospect of European football convinced him to make the move after positive talks with the Celtic party.

The 24-year-old Belgian defender has been on loan at Bolton and FC Twente but spent the past season in Manuel Pelegrini’s first team squad where he was restricted to six appearances, the final one coming on May 3 in the 1-0 win at Tottenham.

Following Celtic’s 0-0 draw at St Johnstone Deila admitted: “We are talking with a lot of players now and are trying to strengthen our squad. Boyata is one of them.

We will see if we can make it or not. I try to keep the conversation to myself until everything is done. You never know in football.

What is positive is we are trying to get quality players to strengthen our team for next season.

It can be hard but we want to get our business done early. We want to start up in late June having added some players to the squad.”

Danny Wilson of Hearts won’t be joining Boyata at Celtic.
