Celtic skipper Scott Brown could miss the start of the SPL season with a recurrence of his long running ankle injury.
The midfielder missed the start of last season after undergoing ankle surgery with the problem flaring up again in the build up to Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Braga.
According to the Daily Record Brown has been feeling pain in the ankle for a fortnight and had it examined by the Celtic medics.
Brown was injured in Celtic’s 2-2 draw with Lyon on Saturday and missed the defeat from Arsenal the following day, against Braga he was also substituted.
The Record claim that Brown took pain killing jabs before the Braga match and will miss out on Sunday’s friendly with Blackburn as well as Scotland’s friendly in Sweden next week.
The midfielder has been told to rest the injury and must be considered a doubt for next Saturday’s opening SPL match away to Inverness Caley Thistle.
