Polish legend Zbigniew Boniek has told Fiorentina that Artur Boruc is a better keeper than injured Sebastian Frey.

Boruc has yet to concede a goal in two Serie A appearances after taking over from Frey.

The French keeper is in his sixth season at Fiorentina but Boniek has promised Fiorentina fans that Boruc is a better keeper.

“Boruc is undoubtedly stronger than Frey, when he was bought I thought he would be starting,” Boniek told Radio Toscana.

“He has personality, he never lets the ball slip and I like the way he conducts himself in goal.

“He is the Polish international goalkeeper and he has proven himself in the Champions League and was one of the best goalkeepers of the last European championships.

“After the injury to Frey, with all due respect to Seba, Fiorentina have improved.”

Fiorentina’s 1-0 home win over Chievo lifted them up to twelfth place in Serie A but elsewhere there wasn’t much to cheer about for the Celtic exiles.

Spartak Moscow’s chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League ended when they were held at home to a 0-0 draw by Krylya Sovetov.

The result leaves Aiden McGeady’s side six points behind third placed Rubin Kazan with just two matches left to play in the Russian season.

Only 13,000 fans turned up to watch the match in the Luzhiniki Stadium with Spartak’s remaining two fixtures being away to city rivals CSKA and Dinamo either side of their crucial Champions League clash with Marseilles.

Over in Germany Morten Rasmussen returned to action for Mainz 05 as a 72nd minute substitute but was unable to prevent a 1-0 defeat at home to Hannover 96 that leaves Mainz trailing leaders Borussia Dortmund by seven points in third place.

In Bulgaria Cillian Sheridan missed out on CSKA Sofia’s 1-0 win over Lokomotiv Plodiv through injury.
