St Johnstone have written to Hugh Dallas expressing their disappointment at a penalty awarded against them in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat from Hearts.

Referee Mike Tumilty gave a penalty for hand ball which Hearts converted to put them 2-0 and on their way to three points.

Television evidence suggested that it was a case of ball to hand with Saints boss Derek McInnes unhappy with the decision.

He said: “I have expressed my disappointment to Hugh Dallas and, through him, to Mike Tumilty, but there is nothing we can do to change it now. It was a decision that cost us the game but we will move on.

“We had plenty of positives to take out of that game going into the Aberdeen match on Saturday.”

Dallas is currently the subject of an SFA internal enquiry into allegations that he sent out an email linking the pope to child abuse.

While the SFA drag their feet on the enquiry the authority of Dallas and respect for the SFA is taking a pounding.

If Dallas is innocent of the allegation his name should be cleared instantly allowing him to implenent the changes promised by SFA Chief Executive Stewart Regan.

If Dallas is guilty of the offence the quicker he is removed from his job the better.
