Aiden McGeady’s derby delight at Ibrox

Aiden McGeady Celtic newsAiden McGeady returned to Russia for pre-season training with one special festive memory- Celtic’s 2-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox.

Five months after quitting Glasgow for Moscow the former hoops favourite couldn’t resist the lure of watching the derby action amongst the supporters.

Since he left for Russia Neil Lennon has transformed the team he once played for but the joy of winning at Ibrox is something that never changes.

“It’s always great to win at Ibrox and I was really happy for the boys,” McGeady said. “The team worked hard for their win.

“I was 19 the last time that I had watched a game at Ibrox from the stand and I really enjoyed it.

“The team played well, the way that everyone expected Rangers would play, they looked really tight defensively and were dangerous on the counter attack.

“This was the first time that I’ve really had Christmas and New Year off and it’s the first time in four months that I’ve been able to get back to Glasgow.”

McGeady did start the season as a Celtic player- playing in the Emirates Cup against Lyon before his record breaking transfer to Moscow.

As a gaduate of the club’s Academy he was determined that there would be no bitterness over his move and was pleased with the way that business was completed.

He told the Celtic View: “I didn’t want to leave the club on bad terms and have people having a go at me when I’m back in the city- although I still get that from the other half!

“Ultimately when I finish playing I think that I want to live here again. It was good that the club got good money for me and I got the right move.

“I’ve got Sky in my home in Moscow and can catch up with the games and always look out for how the team has got on.

“I got to see a few games when I came back and obviously enjoyed the Ibrox match.

“It’s a while since we’ve won at Ibrox and a great result- much needed as well. I still speak to a few of the boys in the team.”
