Islam Feruz
Celtic aces Lewis Kidd and Islam Feruz have been on target on international duty as Scotland recorded back-to-back wins over Malta during their week long training camp on the sunshine isle.
Kidd scored the only goal in last night’s 1-0 win over the Maltese with Feruz and Motherwell’s Lee Erwin on target in the 2-0 win on Monday.
Malta played their under 19 team against Scotland’s u-17’s with Celtic again making up the backbone of the international squad with James Wightman, Mo Yaqub, Jamie Lindsay, Denny Johnston and Marcus Fraser also with the squad.
Joe Chalmers and John Heron would have been in Malta if they hadn’t been with Celtic’s u-19 squad in Turkey.
Speaking after Monday’s 2-0 win coach Ross Mathie said: “We were delighted with the result – more so having played against an older group. It was a good experience for our players which I am sure will hold them in good stead for our UEFA Under-17 Elite Round in March.
“It has been the first match that a large number of the players have played for about six weeks due to the severe weather in Scotland added to the Christmas holiday period but the players seemed to be in good shape which is a credit to the clubs.”
