Irish bhoys Colin Healy and Darren O’Dea are 90 minutes away from the final of the Carling Cup after their shock 1-0 win over Arsenal.

Tamas Priskin scored the golden goal in the 78th minute after taking a pas from Healey and rounding Gunners keeper Wojciech Szczesny to give the Tractor Boys a lead going into the return match at the Emirates Satadium.

After losing 7-0 at Chelsea on Sunday it was a remarkable turnaround for Ipswich with new boss Paul Jewel taking a backseat and leaving Ian McParland in charge for the match.

Fifer McParland, who was in charge of Notts County last season, is expected to move on when Jewel takes over but savoured his side’s unexpected success.

“I’m delighted for the boys,” he said. “It shows their character, to come back from the 7-0 defeat against Chelsea.

“They kept their shape tonight and worked hard, we might have had three goals and limited Arsenal to a couple of shots.

“I’m dead proud of them – now they have to carry on that hard work under the new manager and they’ll be fine.”

Thirty-year-old Healy rarely featured while Roy Keane was in charge at Portman Road but started his first match in over a month in the FA Cup defeat at Chelsea.

O’Dea has had his loan expended until the end of the month when a decision will be made about whether or not he returns to Celtic.

Healy and O’Dea both have Scottish League Cup winners medals with Healy playing in the 2001 win over Kilmarnock and O’Dea scoring in Celtic’s 2-0 win over Rangers in the 2009 final.
