Time to usher George Peat into early retirement

|

George Peat Celtic newsThe dinosaur that is SFA President George Peat has gone way over the top in his latest attack on Celtic.

Peat’s lack of diplomacy is obvious almost every time that he opens his mouth with this afternoon’s statement a classic.

With just a few months remaining as President Peat is going out in style no longer unable to contain his contempt for anything related to Celtic.

While Stewart Regan attempts to ensure an uneasy peace between the SFA and one of it’s major club’s Peat has unilaterally decided to throw in his own contempt for Celtic less than a week before Neil Lennon’s appeal against a six match suspension is heard by a supposedly independent panel.

At 5pm Peat launched his latest assault on Celtic saying: “Celtic’s policy of airing their grievances in public is becoming tiresome.

“It is ironic that they have chosen to criticise the Scottish FA’s processes and structures yet again on the eve of our two-day seminar which will culminate in a new strategy, incorporating streamlined structures and more efficient procedures.
“The Scottish FA is acutely aware of the need to modernise. That was why we commissioned the Henry McLeish Review, which we are committed to implementing.

“It was only a matter of weeks ago that the Celtic chief executive welcomed the Scottish FA’s recognition of the need for modernisation. It is also ironic, given the constant demands for transparency and accountability, that the statement issued by Celtic last night was not attributed to anyone.

“Perhaps Celtic should devote more time to their own responsibilities and discipline than questioning others.”

Peat and irony were made for each other.

In November the man whose most notable contribution to football was helping to put Airdrieonians out said: “Unfortunately, the behaviour of some people in recent weeks has tarnished the image of Scottish football and has demeaned the game.

“The climate of inference, innuendo and conspiracy theories must stop.”

The man rich on irony was pressed to name names but predictably declined saying: “You can judge for yourself. I’m not mentioning any names.”

Peat’s latest attack on Celtic hasn’t gone un-noticed by the club.

On Tuesday Celtic launched a strong attack on the SFA’s decision to ban Neil Lennon for six games raising a number of issues outwith the ban on Lennon.

Shortly before tonight’s match at Hamilton Celtic announced: “In response to an SFA statement this evening we find it slightly curious that once again SFA President, George Peat, has seen fit to involve himself by attacking Celtic in this way.

“Particularly when there is an ongoing appeal against yesterday’s judgement to impose a six-match ban on Neil Lennon.”

Celtic’s defence of Lennon is certain to criticise Peat in the strongest possible terms.

The quicker that he joins the late Jim Farry in the Hampden Hall of Shame the better if Scottish football is to have any chance of moving forward into a fairer future.

Celtic should quite rightly withdraw from the Sectarian Football Association Cup and bring an end to this farcical and blatant bias within scotish football

I can’t believe that more than half the fans who voted blamed the officials for last nights abject performance.

Lets be honest here, while the cheats where up to their usual tricks it was over an hour before we got an attempt on target. Stokes, McCourt, Ledley, Kayal, Mulgrew & Wilson were complete rafael. And can someone please explain the logic of Mulgrew being our creative midfielder at the end of the game???
