Red Card Celtic newsIain Brines will take charge of Celtic’s SPL clash with Aberdeen on Saturday with Euan Norris the man in the middle for next Wednesday’s visit from Hearts.

The only Celtic match that Brines has been involved in so far this season was the 1-0 win at St Mirren in November when Gary Hooper picked up a yellow card for his goal celebrations.

Norris is one of the newer names coming into the top flight and was in charge of Celtic’s early season 4-0 win over St Mirren.

Rangers match with Inverness Caley Thistle tomorrow night will be refereed by Craig Thomson, Mike Tumilty will be in the charge of Saturday’s Hearts-Rangers match at Tynecastle with Stevie O’Reilly in the middle for next Wednesday’s Hibs-Rangers game at Easter Road.

Despite his abysmal performance at the Hamilton-Celtic match Willie Collum remains on the SPL roster taking charge of Saturday’s St Johnstone v St Mirren match.

  • Joe says:

Brines is as bigotted as any referee ever in the Scottish game. He will be a little lost though now that Aiden McGeady has gone.

He made it his duty to goad McGeady and was responsible for a large percentage of all bookings Aiden received as a Celt.

Brines is a cheat, and he probably sees these games as opportunities to compete with Willy Collum as the ref most likely to prove enough bias to take the position vacated by the disgraced Hugh dallas. they both possess the same bias as Dallas and therefore could fill that void with ease.

I wouldn’t say that Brines is a bigot.

Like a few of his colleagues he did seem to look out for any sign of dissent from Aiden McGeady and enjoy booking him, other players were dealt with differently.

Brines seems to get extra enjoyment from booking celebrating Celtic players.

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink picked up a second yellow at Inverness a few years ago for celebrating with supporters, last season Aberdeen’s Stevie McLean, already on a booking, took off his shirt and celebrated with supporters after scoring a penalty against Celtic and went unpunished by Brines.
