Hearts chief Vladimir Romanov has delivered a scathing attack on the SFA ahead of Monday’s SPL meeting on reconstruction.
Romanov’s comments are bound to infuriate President Peat but we’ll find out soon enough whether the man that killed off Airdrie will respond in public or if it’s only Celtic that are ‘increasingly tiresome’.
SPL chairman Ralph Topping and chief executive Neil Doncaster met Romanov in Lithuania yesterday as the mood of clubs swings away from a 10 team set up towards a 14 team SPL with a 6-8 split.
Discussing his talks with Topping and Doncaster the Hearts owner couldn’t resist letting his feelings be known about the state of the SFA.
He said: “It was nice to talk to people who are full of enthusiasm to bring changes to football in Scotland, which has run into a dead end.
“It is senseless to expect the changes from such an alien organisation as the SFA, which lives by its own rules contradicting the laws of the state, democracy and sporting principles.
“Not only is it senseless, but also harmful, as you unwillingly become an accomplice in the destruction of football and in turning it into showbusiness. It is time for the league to protect the rights of the clubs it comprises and to take over from the association as many powers as possible.”
Among the changes that Romanov wants to see introduced is the return of an SPL reserve league.
He added: “It is obligatory that the tournament of reserve teams is resumed. Without such reserves competition, the youths will have no chances to get into the main teams.”

We all thought Romanov was a bit crazy with his rantings about the running of Scottish football over the last few years.
As it happens, he was correct all along!! We have all been suckered by the ‘old’ media.
