Jimmy Calderwood replaces Willie McStay at Ross County

Willie McStay Celtic news

Jimmy Calderwood has taken over from Willie McStay as manager of Ross County.

The former Aberdeen boss took training this morning and was paraded as the new man in charge at Dingwall this afternoon.

Chairman Roy McGregor has wasted no time appointing Calderwood who helped save Kilmarnock from relegation at the end of last season.

MacGregor said: “This has been one of the toughest weeks I can remember in my long involvement with Ross County.  However, I am absolutely delighted that Jimmy has agreed to join us and has been able and very willing to get to work straight away.

“As a full-time club, with an excellent youth development programme, remaining in the First Division is of paramount importance to us this season. We do also have an Alba Cup final still to look forward to.

“As a lifelong Ross County fan, I fully understand the frustration and disappointment our supporters have been feeling since the high of reaching the Scottish Cup final last season.”

Calderwood’s old school style of management is likely to put interfering George Adams, County’s Director of Football, out of place and out of dressing room matters.

The new manager’s first two games in charge are against Dunfermline, another of his former clubs, at East End Park on Saturday then at home to the Pars on Tuesday.
