Craig Thomson will be in charge of Sunday’s crucial SPL clash between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox.
It is the third time in four months that Thomson has been given the fixture.
Thomson was in charge of the last meeting between the two clubs- the final of the Co-Operative Cup- and earned the wrath of Walter Smith for changing his mind over a penalty award to Rangers which resulted in a booking for Nikica Jelavic.
“It’s dangerous for a referee to do that, very dangerous,” the retiring Rangers manager said after his side’s Hampden win. “If it had been in the other penalty box, I don’t know.
“I just felt a wee bit aggrieved that Jelavic got booked because he gave a penalty and then he booked Jelavic.
“He must have thought himself there was something in the decision to give it in the first place.
“So it was strange, especially when there was a similar incident at the other end of the pitch.
“I would prefer to talk about winning rather than referees but I thought that was a very strange one.
“I said before when Celtic were mounting their campaign at the start of the season that if your team is good enough they will win.”
Thomson was the referee for Celtic’s 2-0 win at Ibrox on January 2 and was recently in charge of the Barcelona-Shakhtar Donetsk Champions League quarter-final.
