Troubles continue for Spartak Moscow

|

Aiden McGeady Celtic newsSpartak Moscow’s troubled start to the season continued yesterday with Aiden McGeady’s side losing 2-1 away to Anzhi Makhachkala.

The defeat leaves Spatak in second bottom place with just four points from five game on the back of their 10-3 UEFA Cup hammering from Porto.

Spartak’s only domestic win this season was against Volga with manager Valeri Karpin under pressure with rumours that the club are interested in former Bayern Munich boss Lois van Gaal.

After losing 5-2 at home to Porto Karpin claimed:“There were more positives than negatives. We created 15 chances, but we created and they scored.

“Maybe I’m going crazy but there are no candidates for my job. I’m not ashamed of my team.

“Spartak was the only Russian team to reach the quarter finals. This was a definite success.

“The fact that we lost two games so heavily, of course, blurs this fact, and at the moment things are negative but I would not say we deserved 2-5. We were creating chances.”

It wasn’t a great weekend for the Celts in Russia with Volga losing 1-0 away to Lokomotiv Moscow although Marc Crosas’ side are sitting in third place.
