Neil Lennon's title trust in strikers Hooper and Stokes

|

Gary Hooper Celtic newsNeil Lennon is backing Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper to plunder the goals to take Celtic to the SPL title.

Stokes and Hooper were re-united against Hibs on Wednesday night and scored all three Celtic goals as the hoops moved back to the top of the SPL with ten games left to play.

Lennon will go with the same combination against St Mirren tomorrow and believes that his strike partnership can deliver the goals- and more- to keep Celtic ahead of Rangers on the home stretch.

They play well together,” the Celtic boss stated. “We just need to get more consistency out of the two of them.

You can see what they bring to the team – obviously goals for a start – but they have a good understanding with each other. They are two very intelligent footballers when they are on top of their game, and we saw that against Hibs.”

At odds of 1/6 Celtic won’t make many punters rich today but 10/11 on Stokes scoring looks much better value.

With ten goals since the turn of the year the former Hibs striker is the in form forward and could be back on penalty duty after Gary Hooper’s midweek miss.

Hooper is down to 4/7 to score at anytime but a £10 bet on the former Scunthorpe striker scoring alongside £5 on Stokes will provide a return of £25.21 if both men find the net- as they did by half-time against Hibs

Stokes and Hooper have scored 28 SPL goals so far this season.

Celtic are expected to pile the pressure onto Rangers by beating St Mirren ahead of Walter Smith’s side visiting Hamilton on Sunday but Lennon is taking nothing for granted against the Paisley side.

I watched St Mirren beat Motherwell three of four weeks ago and they were impressive that night, hungry and well-organised defensively,” the Celtic boss told the club website.

“They scored a good goal on the break and it was a big win for them to beat Hamilton. It was very important as it enlarged the gap between them and Hamilton and they have backed it up with a good win against Aberdeen last night.

“All of a sudden they seem to be finding the net so we just have to focus particularly on our home form and hammer home the three points and just keep winning the games between now and the end of the season.

Every game has its own difficulties on its own merits and Saturday will be no different.

“With nine games still to go, I think we have six away to look at, it’s very important we win our home games because away games can be unpredictable at times.”
