It's a bhoys life for Emilio Izaguirre

Emilio Izaguirre Celtic newsScotland’s Player of the Year, Emilio Izaguirre, is enjoying life too much at Celtic to consider moving.

The Honduran made an instant impression on his debut away to Motherwell in September and hasn’t let up since.

Straight from the World Cup and within days of arriving in a foreign country the left-back has taken to taken life in the SPL in his stride and is in line to clean up the Player of the Year awards after being selected by his fellow players.

Davie Moyes is one of many Premiership bosses impressed by Celtic’s £600,000 star but with his wife and 2-year-old son settled Izaguirre is in no rush to join the gravy train south.

“The most amazing thing for me is to see my son, Emilio, so happy here,” the left-back admitted.

“He is only two years old. Everybody here has treated my son, my wife Virginia and myself so well. It makes me and my family very happy. It’s been such a fantastic experience.

“It’s so important that my family is happy. It’s very important to keep living and experiencing good moments, the kind of thing I’ve experienced already during this great year, and to keep improving.

“I am happy to stay here. I would like to stay here. For me and my family, money is not the most important thing. I want to win the league with Celtic.

“There is no money in the world that can replace that – you can’t buy this kind of success.”

Four more wins in the SPL will further enhance Izaguiire’s growing repitation with the Celtic support.

After a season of incredible ups and downs Celtic are in the driving seat with the visits to Inverness, Kilmarnock and Hearts critical in the league race.

Izaguirre is well aware of speculation surrounding his future but with less than a year completed of his four year contract his focus is entirely on the pitch.

He added: “First and foremost, I’m just thinking about the season, the next four games and the final. That’s where my focus lies.

“If, after that, we sit down and talk about a contract, that’s fine. But I’m signed to Celtic for the next three years and I am happy about that. It’s not always a decision that depends on me.

“It is also down to the club and to Peter Lawwell but, as far as I’m concerned, I’m happy to remain at Celtic.

“I’ve already reached several goals in my career. Now I want to win the league with Celtic and hopefully go into the Champions League, to really do something big with Celtic.

“Celtic has always been a great team, always aspiring to win titles and I hope to be here with Celtic to win titles.

“I can honestly say that I’ve enjoyed every single game I’ve played. I just hope to enjoy the next four games as much, maybe a little more, than those we’ve already played.”
