Ki delight at Hampden goal

|

Ki Sung Yeung Celtic newsKi Sung-Yeung was delighted to kick start a fantastic green and white party at Hampden yesterday.

A fantastic 35th minute strike from the midfielder set the scene for Celtic’s Scottish Cup triumph with the victory celebrated as lustily as any that Celtic have enjoyed in the competition.

Ki has had an uphill battle to find a place in the Celtic side but promises to be one of the most influential players in next season’s side.

Over the last ten months Neil Lennon’s side have developed from inexperienced novices into winners with Ki delighted to have played a leading role in a significant triumph.

“To score a goal then lift the trophy was incredible,” he admitted. “It’s the first time I’ve scored a goal in any final and also my first trophy as a professional.

“So I was really delighted with my own performance and to win the cup was a very special feeling. This is definitely the best moment of my career.

“I’ve felt really good in the last three or four games and I just wanted to try to help the team win something. All the players were composed against Motherwell and that’s why we went on and won the game.

“Of course we were really disappointed not to win the league so before the final we said to each other, ‘Let’s do it for the fans’.

“It would have been no good having a great season and playing really well but ending up with no trophies.

“Everyone was really desperate to win the league but it wasn’t to be. That’s why it was so important to recover from that and win the Scottish Cup. I think everyone knows how well we’ve done this season and we just couldn’t finish it without winning a trophy.

“For the team, we had to do it. Celtic need to win trophies and the fans deserve it too.”

Delighted for him. Certainly made the atmosphere in the pub we watched it even better.

Will be interesting to see the comings and goings in the summer. When everyone is fit, he’s probably the odd man out and given the profile he has here, I’m not sure how long some people may want that to continue.

Pure speculation, but the silly season is upon us.
