Bobby Petta Celtic newsBobby Petta is delighted to see the thunder back at Celtic as Neil Lennon reshapes the club.

Petta played a major part in Martin O’Neill’s treble success in 2000/01 and is now back in Glasgow running his own fitness business and watching as much of Celtic as he can.

Watching Celtic under Tony Mowbray was a testing experience for the Dutchman but with Celtic running Rangers close for last season’s title he is confident of success next season even if he has to watch from afrar as an Alloa player alongside Paul Hartley.

“I’ve enjoyed going back to watch Celtic and appreciate more what I had at the club as a player,” Petta revealed. “The fans appreciate what I did and I embrace that- and yes I’m a Celtic fan.

“I can’t watch a game sitting quietly, the atmosphere is amazing and you can’t sit still and just watch, you have to get involved.”

Petta watches Celtic from the directors box and looks across approvingly at the atmosphere created by The Green Brigade.

He added: “At every club you need a section for the hard core supporters, they get everybody going.

“The song says ‘we are Celtic supporters faithful through and through’ and you always have to support the team. That’s what stood out in the final league match against Motherwell. It’s what Celtic are all about, you support the team no matter what, we were close and we have next season to look forward to.

“It was great to see them winning the Scottish Cup and seeing everyone celebrate- it brought back some good memories when we won the treble but I was so pleased for the players to finish on a high.

“After coming so close in the league that has to be the target next season. Keeping this group together with some changes here and there they can be confident of doing well next season.

“I watched the 2010 January game with Rangers and knew that something was missing. I’d heard stories of fans giving away their season tickets and wondered what was going on. Things are coming back now and I’m looking forward to the new season.”
