Craig Whyte Rangers newsRangers Chief Executive Martin Bain has been effectively replaced whilst suspended from his post.

The appoitments of Gordon Smith and Ali Russell to deal with footballing and commercial matters leaves Bain with no post at Ibrox.

Bain was virtually thrown overboard while taking part in a charity boating event in North America alongside Ally McCoist and Walter Smith.

With Sir David Murray taking a back-seat in recent seasons Bain has been the voice of Rangers, challenging the SPL and UEFA as well as being involved in transfer negotiations.

The way that Rangers negotiated for striker Tomer Hemed highlighted the loss of Bain. Rookie manager Ally McCoist spent two days around the negotiating table before agreeing terms with Hemed´s representatives whilst the player remained at home in Israel.

With terms agreed Hemed was expected to complete the deal over the weekend but after striking a deal late on Wednesday night Spanish also rans Real Mallorca were able to move in and convince the player to move to La Liga despite offering lesser terms than Rangers.

McCoist maintained a running commentary on negotiations through newspapers and the Rangers website whereas a more experienced negotiator would have kept quiet till the player was ready to be unveiled as a signing.

Having lost five loan signings since winning the title and with question marks hanging over the future of four key player Smith will have to hit the ground running and dig into McCoist´s alleged 12 million pound war chest.

Steven Whittaker, Steve Davis and Madjid Bougherra are all entering the final year of their contracts with Davie Weir waiting to find out if he´ll be offered a new deal.

Despite these pressing issues new owner Craig Whyte has revealed futuristic plans to develop an Ibrox village of excellence similar to Barcelona´s Nou Camp.

Some new catering kiosks seem to have fired up the imagination of Whyte who is reported to be a billionaire despite taking six months to complete the one pound purchase of Rangers from Sir David Murray.

In the last two days Whyte has given his first one-to-one newspaper interviews. Supporters will judge his actions on the park and after the undignified suspension of Bain and botched bid to sign Hemed the new Rangers chief will know that he must soon start to get things right on and off the pitch.

  • Carntyne says:

Does this mean Joe, that Tomer Hemed has now actually signed for real Mallorca?

Yesterday’s tabloids were still claiming he was going to Ibrox.

  • Joe McHugh says:

99% certain that he´ll be signing for Real Mallorca.

I´ll wait to see him with a Mallorca scarf above his head before being sure.

Just because Celtic aren´t providing daily sounbites and updates doesn´t mean that nothing is happening.

Last season´s signings only emerged once they were virtually completed.

Guys like Sol Campbell and Jimmy Bullock tried to use Celtic by talking about the ´deals´and being pictured around Celtic Park, next to nothing came from Celtic other than confirming interest without any details.

  • Hughie says:

He’s rejected the offer and is off to Mallorca.

  • Ciaran says:

They have developed a habit of making announcements before anything is agreed. A friend of mine says, “nothing is certain until everything is certain”.

Wise words. Was Chris Eagles announced last summer on their web-site? Before joining the mighty, I can’t remember. Was Kris Commons practically paraded to the meedja?

“He will be a great addition to our squad” Said Watty in January about Commons. What ever happened to him?
They’re finding it a bit more difficult to sign these guys now they have to pay the tax.

  • Mike Bhoyle says:

    Two points lads….
Bain has GONE and won’t be returning to Ipox….he’s finished for good.
    Hemed HAS signed for Mallorca…

  • Andy1888 says:

The official Gers website had quoted this guy as being interested in joining Gers!!?? The whole thing smacked of “amateurism” and McCoist will also be found out with this next season.

We (Celtic) need to be vigilant and keep our council until “potential” signings are “definate” signings and do our upmost to keep hold of Izzy and Kayal whilst casting off some “deadwood”.

Surely Fat Sally needs only flutter his eyelids and any player on earth will be overwhelmed by his charm and charisma?

  • “Despite these pressing issues new owner Craig Whyte has revealed futuristic plans to develop an Ibrox village of excellence similar to Barcelona´s Nou Camp.”

I see Murray has included the moonbeams in the sale to Whyte.

  • Gaz says:

RANGERS CEO AND FINANCIAL DIRECTOR SACKED DUE TO “IRREGULARITIES”.

I must have missed that headline. One would have thought that would be huge news in Scotland. Oh and the £2,7m unpaid tax which they have now had to fork out (not the large appeal the one they have actually accepted).

Those huge stories must have been in the same paper, and I missed them. D’oh.

  • Mike Bhoyle says:

    Hi Gaz…
    Both these stories were in….
    The Vatican City Gazette….

  • Dazza says:

    Good article Joe, guess who!

  • bhoylondon67 says:

I seriously can’t look at that Craig Shytes picture or hear him talk without shuddering, he is the creepiest human being alive, i wouldn’t trust that snake of a man to watch my goldfish for a weekend.

  • Joe McHugh says:

No idea who you are Dazza, are you Gordon Smith?

  • hevghirl says:

    bhoylondon67

Funnily enough, I have always thought of the original V series, with lizard skin underneath his human skin. He just looks slippery and scaly. I’ll probably be criminalised for saying that, but what they hell?

    • bhoylondon67 says:

He looks like a creepy, smarmy, snake of a man, then he speaks, and no matter what it’s regarding, he sounds like a child who has just been caught shoplifting or something, trying to explain why his pockets are full of sweets. If you asked him the time his response would be – “i….i…..er…..i…..i….i…er…erm…i… “

  • hevghirl says:

Should have read *What the hell?*
