Dundee United manager Peter Houston has warned David Goodwillie not to move to Glasgow.
The striker will leave Dundee United as soon as they receive an offer of £2m with Blackpool having a £1.6m bid rejected by the Tannadice board.
Rangers have already had two bids for the 22-year-old rejected with Houston unaware of any interest from Celtic.
An alleged rape charge against Goodwillie was dropped earlier this week with Houston warning his star striker away from the goldfish bowl of moving to Glasgow.
“In my honest opinion, with his off-field problems, coming to Glasgow isn’t the best thing,” the Tannadice chief stated. “I said that and I still stand by that. You know the troubles that can happen here in Glasgow – and I’m a Glaswegian.
“I think he would be better served going down to England or abroad and proving himself and I believe he wants to do that as well.
“It is a crucial move, he has a decision to make. He has to grow up and be a mature person and I think he is getting there.
“I think he has had a couple of frights recently. He has to move on and think solely on a football career that can be a very good career.”
In another blow to Rangers UEFA have confirmed that Romanian stopper Dorin Golan won’t be able to play in next week’s Champions League qualifier against Malmo.
Rangers have still to receive a work permit for the defender who has already been registered by Palermo to play in the Europa League.
