Ki Sung Yeung scoresKi Sung Yeung has his focus on securing a place in the Celtic team rather than a move away from Glasgow.

Like most of Celtic’s best players he has been linked with a £10m move to Liverpool during the close season.

Ki finished his first full season at Celtic on a high by scoring a wonder goal in the final of the Scottish Cup against Motherwell and is concentrating his energies on impressing Neil Lennon rather than anyone else.

He said: “I heard of some clubs interested in me but I’m at Celtic now and I just want to play there.

“If a big club really wants me and makes an offer then maybe I would think about it but for now I don’t have any offers, so I have to stay at Celtic.

“My ambition is just to play for a team and play regularly, every week. I just want to win as many trophies as I can.

“I want to improve more and more and maybe this season will be the best. I don’t feel homesick now.”

Ki stepped into the Celtic midfield on Saturday against Perth Glory and played his part in a 2-0 win.

While Australia is new territory for most Celtic players it is almost a second home for midfielder Ki.

He admitted: “ “When I was 14 I came here to learn English. I was in Brisbane at a school, John Paul College. My coach was the old Wales international Geoff Hopkins, who is now boss of Oman.

“At the time there was no pro football in Australia but these days they have teams like Perth Glory and Brisbane Roar.

“It feels strange but nice to be back. I had never been to Perth but it’s very similar to Brisbane – very quiet and very nice weather.”
